Kakheti Wine Day Trips from Tbilisi, from 12 EUR
Twenty day trips from 12 to 180 EUR, median 21.3. Fourteen cost 35 EUR or less, and only two include lunch.
A Kakheti wine day trip from Tbilisi can cost 12 EUR, and the listing is real: nine hours, a 19-seat minibus, seven tastings, a guide. Fourteen of the 20 day trips in this category cost 35 EUR or less, the median is 21.3 EUR, and then the next price is 85. Nothing sits in the stretch between a bargain and a private tour.
The question the page answers is what the money leaves out. The cheap days have no lunch, no hotel pickup and a short list of extras paid in cash; the top three listings carry 78% of the reviews; and a single tour holds half of them. Below are three listings read line by line, a chart of where the 20 fall, and a way to decide between a 12 EUR day and a 99 EUR one. The wider picture of the region is on the Kakheti page.
The six that cost 85 EUR or more are mostly private. Their own page, Private Kakheti Wine Tours, has the full set of 20.

Why a Kakheti day trip can cost 12 EUR
The short answer is volume and omission. A minibus with 19 seats is a cheap vehicle per head once it fills. On the two cheap listings we read, the itinerary is fixed: a bakery in Badiauri, Bodbe monastery, Sighnaghi, two cellars. The price the provider lists is a "from" price for one person. What it leaves out is the rest: lunch, the pickup from your hotel, and the entrance fees and activities sold at the door.
That is not a trick. The 12 EUR listing says so in its "Not included: Food" line, and the 35 EUR one lists lunch as optional. The trick, if there is one, is the title, because "Kakheti wine tour" sounds like a day out and describes a transport service with wine stops.
| 12 EUR day (Vitis Travel) | 35 EUR day (Gamarjoba Georgia Tours) | 180 EUR day (Taste of Georgia) | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Reviews | 340, rated 4.8 | 3,512, rated 4.9 | 32, rated 4.9 |
| Vehicle and size | 19-seat minibus | Up to 30 travellers per booking | Van, up to 10 per guide |
| Tastings | 7 wines at two cellars, plus honey, cheese and chacha | 9: 1 at a bakery, 3 at a family winery, 5 at KTW Winery | Three wineries, more than 12 glasses, a cheese plate |
| Food | Not included | Lunch optional, bread and cheese 3 GEL | Lunch included, chosen by the guide |
| Meeting | Europe Square, Tbilisi | 08:30 at Avlabari metro | Hotel pickup |
| Extras | Bread class 5 GEL, tuk tuk 20 GEL, Chronicles of Georgia fee | Bring cash | Tip suggested 15 to 20%, extra alcohol paid |
The 180 EUR listing has one inconsistency worth knowing. Its highlights say the day visits more than four wineries, and its inclusions say wine tasting in three. One of the two is an optimistic description. At 180 EUR you can ask which.
The chart puts numbers on the gap. The middle half of the 20 runs from 16 to 89 EUR, which looks wide, but it is stretched by the top quarter: up to 35 EUR the prices go 12, 13, 13, 13, 16, 16, 17, 17, 18, 18, 25, 26, 28, 35, and above it they go 85, 99, 125, 143, 146, 180. A 40 EUR day trip does not exist here, and neither does a 50 EUR one. The decision is between the standard day and something that costs three to fifteen times more.
The churchkhela stop and the small extras
The cheap days fill their hours with short stops that add colour without adding cost. The 12 EUR listing visits a small winery at Manavi where guests taste wine and honey and take a churchkhela master class, then a bakery in Badiauri where they bake the local bread themselves. Churchkhela is the string of walnuts dipped in thickened grape juice you see hanging in every market.
These stops are a pleasant use of an hour and cost almost nothing to run. They are not wine tasting, however, and the category mixes them freely. A listing with nine tastings, as the 35 EUR one claims, includes the glass at the bakery.
One tour holds half of the reviews
Gamarjoba Georgia Tours, at 35 EUR, has 3,512 of the category's 6,878 reviews, 51%. Two other group days, at 26 and 17 EUR, add 1,251 and 621, so the top three listings total 5,384 reviews, or 78%. Their ratings run from 4.8 to 5.0. The weighted score of the category, 4.88, is therefore the score of three high-volume minibus days, and the other 17 listings barely move it.
Do not read this as a verdict on the other operators. Many have fewer than ten reviews and a clean 5.0, and small numbers do not tell you much. A high count tells you the operation is big and the route is standard. It does not tell you how a small private guide would do.
What is never in the price
Go through the lines of the listings and a pattern appears. Lunch is included in two of the 20. Hotel pickup is included in six, and the 180 EUR small group is one of them. The cheap days we read meet at a fixed point in Tbilisi, Europe Square or Avlabari metro station, and one leaves at 08:30. Activities like bread-making cost a few lari. The Chronicles of Georgia, the monument complex above Tbilisi on the 12 EUR itinerary, is marked as carrying an extra fee.
Plan around that. Bring cash in lari, eat before you leave or accept a late lunch, and do not expect to be collected.
A 12 EUR tour is a transport service with wine stops. It is honest about it, if you read the line that says food is not included.
What the extra 50 to 150 EUR buys
Six listings cost 85 EUR or more, and five of them are private. The 85 EUR one is an eight-hour private tour. The 99 EUR one runs 12 hours and names Telavi, Kvareli and Sighnaghi in its title. The 125 EUR one is aimed at beginners, with three wineries in seven hours, and the 146 EUR one is an organic winery tour with lunch at the cellar.
What you get for the difference is time, flexibility and fewer people. What you do not get, in most of them, is lunch: only two of the twenty include it, and one of those is the 180 EUR small-group day.
Practical checks before you book a Kakheti day trip
The listings carry small conditions that decide whether the day works for you. The 35 EUR day sets a minimum age of 5, does not recommend itself to pregnant travellers and operates in all weather, so dress for rain. Its guide speaks English; the 12 EUR day lists English and Russian, and a Russian-speaking group on the same minibus will change what the guide says and how long he says it. The 35 EUR listing asks that nobody enters a church in shorts.
Also check the meeting point against where you sleep. A fixed meeting at 08:30 at Avlabari metro station suits some hotels and not others. On the listings that include hotel pickup, ask for the pickup window. None of this is a reason to avoid the cheap days, and all of it is a reason to read the last screen of the listing, the one nobody reads.
| If you want | Choose | Price | Watch for |
|---|---|---|---|
| The road, the monastery and a few glasses | A 12 to 18 EUR group day | 12 to 18 EUR | No lunch, no pickup, bring cash |
| The one most people book | The 35 EUR day with 9 tastings | 35 EUR | Up to 30 travellers per booking |
| A proper lunch and fewer people | The 180 EUR small group, up to 10 | 180 EUR | More than four wineries or three? Ask |
| A longer route through Telavi and Kvareli | The 12-hour private day | 99 EUR | Check whether the price is for the car |
| Your own pace | A private day | 85 to 146 EUR | Whether the lunch is included |
Want a driver for the day?
The 20 private Kakheti tours start at 54 EUR, and every one of them offers hotel pickup.
Questions about Kakheti wine day trips from Tbilisi
How much is a Kakheti day trip from Tbilisi?
The median across 20 listings is 21.3 EUR. Fourteen cost 35 EUR or less, from 12 EUR. The other six cost 85 to 180 EUR, and five of those are private. There is nothing between 35 and 85.
Is lunch included?
Rarely. Two of the 20 include a meal. On the cheap days lunch is optional or not included, and you pay in lari at a restaurant along the way. Check the "Not included" list.
Do I need cash?
On the cheap days, yes. One listing lists a bread-making class at 5 GEL, an optional tuk tuk in Sighnaghi at 20 GEL, and a bakery tasting at 3 GEL on another, and tells guests to carry cash.
How many wineries will I visit?
Two on the cheap days we read, with seven to nine tastings between them, and three or more on the small-group and private days. One small-group listing says both three and more than four in different places.
Is a 12 EUR tour good enough?
If you want the road, the monastery, a hilltop town and some wine, yes. It is not a wine-focused day. Much of the nine hours is travelling: Tbilisi to Sighnaghi alone is 2 to 2.5 hours each way by marshrutka.
Which is the best-reviewed day trip?
By volume the 35 EUR Gamarjoba day, with 3,512 reviews at 4.9. By rating, the top small listings show 5.0, but from fewer than ten reviews each. Weigh both.
