Margaret River Wine Tours: What the 19 Listings Are
Nineteen listings from 16 to 1,091 EUR, five of them single tastings, and four operators charging exactly 116 EUR.
Five of the nineteen Margaret River listings are a single tasting of one or two hours at one estate, priced 16 to 69 EUR, and four of the nine listings flagged private are among them. That matters for any Margaret River wine tour page, because the headline numbers mix two kinds of product. The 47% of private listings looks like a region of chauffeured days. It is half that, plus a handful of people paying 25 EUR to sit in a barrel hall. This page separates the single tastings from the day tours, shows why four different operators charge exactly 116 EUR, and explains why most of the region's tours begin in the region rather than in Perth, three hours away.
The region is at the south-west corner of Western Australia. The listings here are day tours, tastings and a few private flights and drives, read on 30 September 2026, and they are short on volume: 3,050 reviews in total, the fewest of our four Australian regions. Below are the five short tastings, a table of the formats, the four operators at the same price, the one company that carries 42% of the reviews, and what the word private covers, followed by the 0.05 drink-driving rule and six questions. The history is short, since the modern region dates from the late 1960s.

Ratings collected by Viator and Tripadvisor
Five of the nineteen are an hour at one estate
The five short listings are a behind-the-scenes session with food and wine pairing at Cape Mentelle (69 EUR, two hours), a private tasting in its barrel hall (25 EUR, under an hour), two sessions at Passel Estate, a wine and chocolate bonbon tasting (31 EUR) and a wine and cheese pairing (16 EUR), and a tasting at Voyager Estate (41 EUR, one hour). They are all sold by the estate itself.
These are the best value on the page if you already have a car or a driver and want one good cellar door. They are not a tour. The 'private' label on four of them means a booked session, not a vehicle and a guide. Someone skimming for 'private Margaret River wine tour' and finding 16 EUR has read a different product.

Four operators, one price
Four separate operators, Harvest Tours, Tannin Road Wine Tours, Cheers Wine and Scenic Tours and Wine For Dudes, each list a day at exactly 116 EUR. That is also the median of the whole page. The days differ: two depart from Margaret River town, one of them a beer and wine adventure, and lengths run six to nine hours. The coincidence looks like a market setting its price, and it is the best single reason not to choose on price between these tours. The real differences are the length of the day, the number of cellar doors and whether the lunch is at an estate or a cafe.
The cheapest full-day group option in this band is 107 EUR for a five-and-a-half-hour curated tour with coffee, lunch and forest. The most expensive is 151 EUR for a winery and brewery tour with a gourmet lunch.
Most tours start here, not in Perth
The map marks Margaret River, Dunsborough, Yallingup, Cowaramup and Augusta. The region is a strip of coast and forest, and the towns are close to each other.
Perth is about three hours away by road. That is why, among the 26 sellable tours the project found for the region, Viator's own destinations put 15 under Margaret River, 5 under Perth and 3 under Busselton. If you are staying in Perth, read the departure point on each listing: a 'departs Margaret River' tour, as two of the 116 EUR ones say in their titles, does not collect you from the city.
One operator holds 42% of the reviews
All About Margaret River has three listings and 42% of the region's reviews. Its best seller, the day that promises an Italian lunch and emu feeding, has 975 reviews at 5.0, 129 EUR and seven hours, and it alone is 32% of everything said about the region. Its curated small-group day is 107 EUR and its tailored private tour 543 EUR.
The region's five-star average belongs largely to one company's careful product. It is a reasonable place to start, and it is not a survey of the region.
When one operator writes a third of the reviews, the region's rating is that operator's rating.
The chart makes the structure plain. A cluster of day tours sits around 106 to 151 EUR at five to nine hours, the short tastings hug the left side under an hour, and three private or air listings float far to the right.
What else is in the day
Lunch is included in 13 of the 19 listings and pickup in 13, each 68%. Beyond wine, the extras are specific. Three listings add a brewery, the 151 EUR winery and brewery day with a gourmet lunch, a 116 EUR beer and wine adventure and a build-your-own private tour. One adds emu feeding and another a forest stop with coffee. A 119 EUR boutique tour promises a blind tasting with an Italian lunch. One short tasting pairs wine with chocolate bonbons, and the 1,091 EUR private day is built around wine and chocolate.
None of this is a problem. It is the way to choose among days that cost the same. If you are travelling with someone who will not drink, a day with a forest walk or a brewery is easier to share than seven hours of Cabernet.
Private means two things
Take the four tastings out and five true private listings remain. A build-your-own winery and brewery tour from South West Ride Share is 106 EUR and six hours; a classic Chevy Belair car tour with lunch is 194 EUR and six hours; a fully tailored private tour from All About Margaret River is 543 EUR for four hours; a flight to Leeuwin for lunch is 564 EUR; and a ten-hour private wine and chocolate odyssey is 1,091 EUR with four reviews.
These are priced for the party, not the seat. Ask how many guests the price covers, and what happens with lunch, before comparing any of them with a 116 EUR group ticket.
What you see depends on the month
The photograph shows bare vine rows in the cold months: no leaves and no fruit. In the picking months, roughly February to April, the same rows carry the crop and the wineries are at their busiest, so the estate you visit in winter is a different scene from the one in March.
The region's climate is Mediterranean with a strong ocean influence, with dry summers. The main varieties are Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc. A day tour is a good way to taste all three in one sitting, because each estate pours what it is known for.
Sixty years of a young region
Margaret River is a modern wine region with a short history. Dates are from estate and register pages.
The origins
1967
Vasse Felix is founded
The estate at Cowaramup calls itself the region's founding wine estate, and dates its start to 1967.
Today
30 October 1996
The Margaret River GI is registered
Wine Australia's register lists the region inside the South West Australia zone on this date.
Driving and the 0.05 limit
The limit is 0.05% blood alcohol. Tasting at three cellar doors and then driving is the plan most likely to go wrong, and the region is a long drive from Perth. The tour solves the driver problem and puts tastings and lunch into one price, and the short single-estate sessions are for people who already have a driver.

Questions about Margaret River wine tours
How far is Margaret River from Perth?
About three hours by road. Most of the listings here start in the region, so staying in Perth adds six hours of driving to a day out unless the listing collects you from the city.
Are the short tastings worth it?
Yes, if you already have a driver. They cost 16 to 69 EUR, last under two hours and go deeper into one estate than a day tour can. They do not include transport.
Why do several tours cost exactly 116 EUR?
Four operators list a day at that price. It suggests the market sets it. Compare the number of cellar doors, length and lunch instead.
What is a cellar door?
The sales and tasting room of a winery. In Margaret River it may be a counter in a barrel hall or a shed among the vines.
Do any tours include wildlife?
One of the best-reviewed day tours includes emu feeding, and several include brewery or chocolate stops. Wine is not always the only subject.
Can I do it as a private tour?
Yes, but check what 'private' means. Four of the nine private-flagged listings are single tastings. The true private tours start around 106 EUR and reach 1,091 EUR for ten hours.
For a comparison with the other Australian regions, see Australian wine tours. If you are comparing day trips, the Hunter Valley from Sydney is a far longer day for similar money.
