Penedès and Priorat wine tours from Barcelona
57 tours from 21.50 to 798 EUR. One operator holds 68% of the reviews, and only one listing takes a shared group to the Priorat.
One operator, Castlexperience Wine Tours, holds 68% of the reviews on this page, and its bestseller, with 8,268 of them, is a half day to Montserrat in which the winery is an option you tick at checkout. That is the fact to carry into any search for Penedès and Priorat wine tours from Barcelona. The page covers 57 tours that start in Barcelona or on the coast to the south and west of it, and they fall into three formats: Montserrat days with a cellar, cava and still-wine trips in the Penedès, and a group filed under the Priorat in which most listings never reach it. Below you will find the four denominations behind the title, how to reach each without a car, what a cellar-door tasting costs, and which format to buy.
The three sub-pages are written from the listings, not from their titles. Where a title promises the Priorat and delivers a wine bar in Gràcia, we say so. The numbers come from 57 listings read on 30 September 2026. Prices are per person as listed, except on private tours, where the unit is not always stated and we treat the figure as per booking. That is why the private days look so dear beside the shared ones in the chart further down, and why the medians are a guide to a format, not a quote.

Four denominations under one title
The page name says Penedès and Priorat, and the wine in the glass comes from four places. The Penedès, south-west of Barcelona around Sant Sadurní d'Anoia and Vilafranca del Penedès, is where cava is made and where the Torres family has its visitor centre at Pacs del Penedès. The Priorat, more than 100 km away in a straight line, is red wine from slate. Pla de Bages, around Manresa, is where the most booked Montserrat tours end their day. Alella, a coastal denomination just north of Barcelona, is where the sail-and-wine listings land.
Only the first two are in the page title, and the other two account for a large share of what people actually book. The distinction matters because each area has its own grapes. Alella's tours mention Pansa Blanca. A Bages winery on the Montserrat route describes white Picapoll and the red Sumoll and Mandó. Neither is Penedès, and neither is something the Priorat page would lead you to expect.
Read the map from Barcelona outwards. Sant Sadurní d'Anoia is about 40 km away, close enough for a commuter train. Montserrat is 60 km away, according to the listings, and Vilafranca del Penedès sits a little further south-west. Sitges, on the coast, is where three tours begin. The Priorat dots, Gratallops and Falset, sit inland from Tarragona and more than 100 km from Barcelona on the map, which is why its full-day listings run 10 to 12 hours and why nothing in the catalogue covers it in a morning.
Cava: three grapes and one rule
Cava is made mainly from Macabeo, Parellada and Xarel·lo, three white grapes grown on the Penedès slopes, and its denomination was created in 1986. The first Catalan sparkling wine in the traditional method is credited to Josep Raventós at Codorníu in 1872, after phylloxera wrecked the region's vines. The word champagne is reserved for France, which matters here because one listing on the Penedès page is titled with it and sells a cava day.
In 2019 a group of producers, among them Gramona, Llopart and Recaredo, left the Cava denomination and began selling under the name Corpinnat. If a guide tells you the best cava is not called cava, this is the conversation. The tours that visit family cellars are likelier to have it.
Priorat: slate, old vines and no railway
The Priorat is small, about 2,000 hectares of vines across eleven municipalities, planted mostly with Garnacha, about 41%, and Cariñena, about 23%, on llicorella, a dark slate with flecks of mica. Its qualified denomination, the DOQ, was recognised in Catalonia in 2000 and by the Spanish state in 2009. The Carthusian monks of Scala Dei, who settled here in the late twelfth century, are credited with shaping the land.
What the catalogue adds is scarcity. The wine villages the tours name are Porrera, Gratallops and La Morera de Montsant, in the hills around Falset, and of the 20 listings on the Priorat page only seven reach them. One takes a shared group from Barcelona, at 195 EUR for ten hours with lunch extra; the private days run 260 to 645 EUR. The listing-by-listing detail, including what lunch costs at the winery, is on Priorat and Barcelona Wine Tastings.

Which format to choose
A Penedès cellar costs 21.50 EUR and an hour and a half. The one shared Priorat day costs roughly nine times as much and lasts seven times as long. They are not the same purchase.
The 57 tours sit in three pages that behave like three different products. Read the chart before the sub-pages: it shows price by format, with the bar covering the middle half of listings.
| Format | Tours | Median price | Reviews | What you are really buying |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Montserrat and winery day trips | 17 | 179 EUR | 17,861 | A mountain monastery first, and a winery that is optional, extra or absent in five listings, the two biggest among them |
| Penedès cava and wine tours | 20 | 104 EUR | 2,071 | Five cellar-door tickets at 21.50 to 36.50 EUR, bike tours from Sitges, and private days from 350 EUR |
| Priorat and Barcelona wine tastings | 20 | 86.50 EUR | 1,603 | Seven listings in the Priorat, five that sail or cycle to Alella, seven tastings inside Barcelona and one in Bages |
The three format pages
Each one is written from the listings it holds.
Montserrat and winery day trips
Seventeen listings, from 49 to 672 EUR. In five listings, the two biggest among them, the winery is optional, extra or absent.
Penedès cava and wine tours
Twenty listings. Door tickets from 21.50 EUR, small-group days from 98 EUR and private days from 350 EUR.
Priorat and Barcelona wine tastings
Twenty listings, of which seven visit the Priorat. Cheap tastings in Barcelona sit next to 645 EUR private days.
Sitges and the coast
The coastal listings are easy to miss because their titles do not name a denomination. Easy Cycling Sitges runs three of them, at 92, 110 and 115 EUR, with free hotel pickup in Sitges: a bike tour with a winery visit, a two-winery small group, and a paella class with a winery and a ride. Penedes Ecotours sells an e-bike day from Barcelona with two wineries at 79 EUR for 7.5 hours.
North of the city, World Experience and Sailing Experience Barcelona sail from Port Olímpic to the Alella winery or pedal there and sail back, at 83 to 137 EUR. They are good afternoons. They are not the Priorat, even when they sit on its page.
Getting there from Barcelona
| Destination | How | Time | Cost and notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Sant Sadurní d'Anoia (cava) | Rodalies R4 from Plaça Catalunya | About 50 minutes to an hour | A three-zone single was listed at about 5.40 EUR. ArtCava will collect from the train station if you email it. |
| Montserrat | FGC R5 from Plaça Espanya to Monistrol, then the rack railway | About 1 hour, plus 15 to 20 minutes up | FGC about 6.90 EUR, rack railway 9 EUR one way, per a travel guide. Tours start from several points, among them Barcelona Nord and Estació de França. |
| Penedès family cellars | A tour, or your own car | Varies | Bodega Miquel Jané, at Font-Rubí, meets you at the winery and does not include transport. |
| Priorat | No railway | 10 to 12 hours for the day | The shared tour picks up in Barcelona, Tarragona and Sitges. Two listings start in Salou. |
| Alella (north coast) | Boat or bike from Port Olímpic, or a tour van | 4 to 7 hours | Sailings depend on weather. Minimum numbers apply. |
What a tasting costs at the cellar door
The cheapest real products on the page are admission tickets to big cellars, and the price is stable enough to compare. Nothing in the next table includes transport, except ArtCava's station pickup by request.
| Cellar | Price | Length | What you taste |
|---|---|---|---|
| Freixenet, Sant Sadurní (Civitatis) | 21.50 EUR | 90 minutes | 2 cavas; free cancellation up to 3 days before |
| ArtCava, Can Batlle | 24 EUR | 2 hours | 3 cavas after the vineyard and the 12th-century masia |
| Codorníu, Sant Sadurní | 30 EUR | 90 minutes | 3 cavas with appetizers, a modernist cellar by Puig i Cadafalch, and a train ride through the galleries |
| Bodega Miquel Jané, Font-Rubí | 35.62 EUR | 3 hours | Several wines with local snacks; minimum age 12 |
| Freixenet with aperitif (Tiqets) | 36.50 EUR | 2 hours | 2 cavas and a Mediterranean aperitif |
| La Conreria d'Scala Dei, Priorat | 25 EUR | 1.5 hours | 4 wines from tank and barrel; you travel there yourself |
Do you need to book? For everything above, yes: each is a timed slot sold through Civitatis or Tiqets, and the Tiqets listings show no cancellation window. Tours from Barcelona also depart at fixed times, and the Montserrat coaches ask you to check in twenty minutes early at the operator's desk. The shared Priorat day takes up to 8 travellers per booking, so it fills before the coaches do.

Questions about Penedès and Priorat wine tours
Can I visit the Priorat in a day from Barcelona?
Yes, but it is a long day. The shared tour takes 10 hours, picks up in Barcelona, Tarragona and Sitges, visits three small wineries and leaves lunch to you at 29 to 45 EUR. Private versions run 10 to 12 hours and 480 to 645 EUR. Of twenty listings on the Priorat page, only that one takes a shared group from Barcelona.
Is Montserrat a wine tour?
The mountain is the main event. The winery on the two bestselling listings is optional or tied to a meal, and one small-group listing tastes wine at the monastery, not at a cellar. The Montserrat page sets out which is which.
Which cava cellar can I visit without a tour?
Freixenet and Codorníu in Sant Sadurní d'Anoia both sell tickets at 21.50 to 36.50 EUR, and ArtCava is a short way out. You can reach the town by the R4 in roughly an hour. Booking a slot is wise.
Are the tours from Barcelona pickup or meeting point?
About 44% include hotel pickup. The two most reviewed Montserrat tours do not: you check in at Barcelona Nord. Small-group and private tours more often collect you, so read the not-included list.
What is Corpinnat?
A brand that started in 2019 when producers including Gramona, Llopart and Recaredo left the Cava denomination. Their sparkling wines are still made in the Penedès but no longer carry the word cava on the label.
Is the Penedès worth it if I only drink red?
Less so. The Penedès is better known for white and sparkling wine, and red-lovers are better served by the Priorat, which needs a full day, or by Rioja, covered on its own page.
For the national comparison, read Spain wine tours, which sets this region against Rioja. Each of the three format pages goes through its listings one by one: Montserrat days, cava cellars and Priorat and Barcelona tastings.
