Montserrat and winery day trips from Barcelona
Seventeen tours from 49 to 672 EUR. The two bestsellers hold 77% of the reviews and treat the winery as an option.
The Montserrat tour with the most reviews on this page, 8,268 of them, costs 48.60 EUR and includes a winery only if you select it as an option. The second, with 5,471, includes one only if you pick its tapas or lunch option. Together those two hold 77% of the 17,861 reviews here, and both leave from the same bus station in Barcelona. That is the context for any search for a Montserrat wine tour from Barcelona: the mountain is certain, the wine is not. This page reads all 17 listings for what they put in the base price, what they sell as an extra, and how many hours you actually spend at a cellar. It does not repeat what Montserrat is; the destination page covers the region.
We read the itinerary and the included and not-included lists of eight tours, among them the seven busiest. Where the title says winery and the small print says otherwise, the table below shows it. The numbers are prices as listed per person on shared tours; the private prices may be per booking.

Montserrat wine tour from Barcelona: is the winery part of it?
Five listings make the point. The 48.60 EUR half day (8,268 reviews) says in its included list that the winery visit, three tastings and the tapas lunch apply only "if option selected". It adds that the operator often works with small family wineries and that the cellar "may vary" from the one named. The 54 EUR day (5,471 reviews) sends you to a castle winery near Manresa, but only on its tapas and lunch options. The 105 EUR "Premium" full day from the same operator repeats the pattern: the winery visit, the meal and three organic wines all sit under "if lunch option selected". The 107.50 EUR small group lists the "cava cellar visit and tasting fee" as not included, and says only its private option covers the ticket. The 79 EUR small group has no winery at all: the tasting is wine, liqueur and cheese poured by a sommelier at the monastery.
Those five listings hold 84% of all reviews on the page. Nothing in them is wrong. They are priced for people who want the mountain and a glass, and they are good at it. The risk is for the reader who books the 48.60 EUR tour as a wine tour.

| Small Group Tour and Wine Tasting (Julià Travel) | 79 EUR | 5.5 hours | None: tasting at the monastery | No | No |
The table is the answer to the question the page title raises. If you want a cellar, choose the 109, 125 or 179 EUR tours, or confirm the option on the three Castlexperience tours before you pay. If you want the monastery and a drink, the 49 EUR tour is the best value on this page, and it is straightforward about the rest in the small print. Whichever you pick, arrive early: the operator asks you to check in 20 minutes before departure, at 8:30 or 9:45 depending on the season.
At 48.60 EUR the most reviewed Montserrat tour costs about 8 EUR an hour. The 179 EUR small group costs about 26. The difference is mostly the winery.
The chart shows why the median of 179 EUR describes no tour in particular. The shared dots hug the bottom of the chart and the private diamonds float above, at 8 to 10 hours for 176 to 672 EUR. A ten-hour shared tour can cost 108 or 125 EUR, and a ten-hour private one 295 or 672. Private prices are quoted as listed and we could not confirm the unit: treat them as per booking, not per person, until the operator says otherwise. One private listing is pitched at cruise passengers from the Barcelona port, at 234 EUR for 8 hours.
Up the mountain: rack railway, funiculars and what is extra
The way up is part of the price on some tours and an extra on others. The 79 EUR small group includes the rack railway, the cremallera from Monistrol. The 109 EUR tour includes it on the way down. The 125 EUR tour does not, and lists the cable car at about 8 EUR, plus the basilica entry, which you buy at the operator's office beforehand. The 107.50 EUR small group makes the funicular to Sant Joan and the museum extra.
Doing it yourself is the honest comparison. A return on the FGC R5 from Plaça Espanya to Monistrol, at about 6.90 EUR each way, plus the rack railway, about 9 EUR up or 15 EUR return, comes to roughly 30 EUR before the basilica ticket, per a travel guide. Against 48.60 EUR for a guided half day with transport, that is not a large saving, and it leaves out the winery.
An hour at the monastery: what the guided visit covers
Montserrat is a Benedictine monastery on a mountain about 60 km from Barcelona, in a natural park declared in 1987. A community has lived there for nearly a thousand years. The listings agree on what the guided hour covers: the basilica, the 12th-century Romanesque carving of the Black Madonna, La Moreneta, and the story of the shepherds said to have found her in a grotto in 880.
Two details decide the morning. La Moreneta tickets are included on the 8:30 and 13:30 departures of the 109 EUR tour, and the Escolania, the boys' choir, sings on the 9:30 slot, but not on Saturdays, school holidays and several other dates, according to another listing. Free time afterwards runs from 40 minutes to two hours, depending on the tour.
Private or shared
Eight private listings make up 47% of the page, priced from 176 to 672 EUR. The cheapest, at 176 EUR for 8 hours, is sold by an operator with four reviews. The most expensive, at 672 EUR for 10 hours, has 21. The middle of the private range is the 295 EUR listing from In Out Barcelona Tours with hotel pickup and 105 reviews. Three of the eight include lunch, at 425, 570 and 575 EUR.
For a couple, a shared small group at 108 to 125 EUR each comes to 216 to 250 EUR. If the private prices are per booking, as they appear to be, that is close to the 234 and 286 EUR private listings of 8 hours without lunch. The private option pays only if you want a different start time, a slower pace at the monastery, or a particular cellar.
Meeting points, start times and how to choose
Meeting points differ more than the prices. Castlexperience's three tours meet at its office by Barcelona Nord bus station. The 109 EUR tour meets at Estació de França, the 125 EUR one at Palau de la Música at 8:15, the 179 EUR one at Passeig de Colom and the 79 EUR one at Estació del Nord. None of these is a hotel lobby. A few collect you: the In Out Barcelona small group, from your hotel or apartment between 8 and 9 in the morning, and a shared Easy Cycling Sitges listing with lunch at 192 EUR.
A short rule for choosing. Pick the 48.60 EUR tour if the mountain is the point and you will add the winery for a few euros more. Pick the 109 or 125 EUR tour if you want a cellar and a proper lunch without paying small-group prices. Pick the 179 EUR tour if a small group matters to you and you want to walk a vineyard. Two practical warnings from the listings. Montserrat and the winery can be colder or hotter than Barcelona, so bring water in summer and a layer the rest of the year. And timings are approximate: the Castlexperience listings ask you not to schedule anything straight after the tour, because traffic and weather move the return. Groups there are capped at 20 per guide, transport is shared, and the tours are not wheelchair accessible, though service animals are allowed. Children of three or under join free.
Skip the page if the cellar is the point: the cava and Penedès page has cellar-door tickets from 21.50 EUR, and the region page shows the alternatives.
Questions about Montserrat and winery day trips
Does a Montserrat tour from Barcelona include a winery?
Not always. The three Castlexperience listings, at 48.60, 54 and 105 EUR, include a winery only on certain options. One 107.50 EUR small group excludes the cellar ticket from its base price and another tour tastes wine at the monastery. Read the included list.
How long does a Montserrat and wine tour take?
From 5.5 to 10 hours, with a median of 9. The half day at 6 hours is the quickest that includes a winery option. The monastery visit is about an hour guided plus one to two hours free.
Can I visit Montserrat without a tour?
Yes. The FGC R5 runs from Plaça Espanya to Monistrol in about an hour, and the rack railway takes another 15 to 20 minutes. Fares add up to roughly 30 EUR return, per a travel guide, before the basilica ticket.
Where are the wineries on these tours?
Two areas. The biggest tours go to a castle winery near Manresa, in Pla de Bages. Others go to the Penedès, at Torrelavit, Pacs del Penedès or Sant Sadurní d'Anoia. The Penedès is a different denomination, and one of the listings states it is Pla de Bages.
Does the boys' choir always sing?
No. One listing warns that the Escolania does not sing on Saturdays, school holidays and several dates across the year. If it matters to you, ask the operator for the choir calendar before you choose a departure.
Is hotel pickup included?
In 10 of the 17 listings, but not in the three Castlexperience tours. Those meet at Barcelona Nord, where you check in 20 minutes before departure. If you are staying away from the centre, choose a tour whose included list says hotel pickup.
Want the cellar without the mountain?
The Penedès page has cellar-door tickets from 21.50 EUR, bike tours from Sitges and family cellars, all sorted by what they include.
