Burgundy Wine Tours from Dijon and Beaune
38 tours, 11 to 2,353 EUR, median 425. Shared days sit at 141.5 EUR and private ones at 593.5: the region is two markets, not one.
Split the Burgundy price list in two before you read it. The 38 listings on this page have a median of 425 EUR, but that figure describes nobody's day: the 16 shared tours sit at 141.5 EUR and the 22 private ones at 593.5 EUR. Burgundy wine tours start mostly from Dijon or Beaune and work the Côte d'Or, the slope of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay vines that runs roughly 60 km south from Dijon. This page is about the region as a whole: where the villages sit, how the quality ladder works, how the train from Paris actually runs, and which of the two Burgundy pages below fits your trip. Prices are as listed by the operators, read on 30 September 2026, and they are the reason this page leads with arithmetic rather than with adjectives.
One warning about the famous names. Several listings stop beside Romanée-Conti or Clos de Vougeot. In the itineraries we read, that means a photo stop at the roadside plot and a look at a château, not a tasting at either. The wine is poured at other estates, so read the itinerary rather than the title. It is the most common misreading of a Burgundy listing, and the reason the private pages below name their villages one by one. A grand cru plot you pass on the road is a photograph; a grand cru in your glass has to be written into the tasting line.

What 38 Burgundy listings cost, and the split behind the median
Take the shared tours first. They run from 11 EUR to 500 EUR, median 141.5 EUR, and they hold 2,482 of the 3,108 reviews. The 22 private listings run from 55 to 2,353 EUR, median 593.5 EUR, and hold the other 626. When a Burgundy tour sells, it is almost always a shared one. The most reviewed listing, a 210 EUR bike day from Beaune, has 851 reviews, more than all 22 private tours together.
Two other things pull the median around. Eight of the 38 listings cost under 100 EUR, and none is a full day among the vines: three Dijon masterclasses at 35 to 84 EUR, a cheese pairing hour, a 55 EUR private tasting in a Beaune shop, a 65 EUR three-hour bike ride, an 87 EUR visit of Beaune from Dijon and an 11 EUR crémant factory visit. At the top, the full-day private listings we read cap a booking at 7 or 8 travellers, so a 750 EUR day is about 107 EUR each for seven. Divide before you compare.
Price by format, not by region
The chart shows the middle half of prices for each of our two Burgundy formats. The Côte d'Or page sits around 212 EUR with a narrow spread, because it is mostly one product: a shared minibus or bike day. The private page sits at 571 EUR with a spread that runs from under 450 to over 900 EUR, because it mixes a 55 EUR shop tasting with a 13 hour drive from Paris at 2,353 EUR.
A regional median of 425 EUR falls in the gap between the two bars, where almost nothing is sold.
Dijon or Beaune: where to sleep, and how the train works
Beaune is the practical base. It is the start point of the day tours that matter most and it sits at the hinge between the two slopes. Dijon is the bigger city, with the direct TGV, and the place for cheap tastings.
The train makes either workable without a car. Paris to Dijon takes 1 h 34 on the fastest TGV, with 18 trains a day and fares from about 20 EUR. Dijon to Beaune is a TER of roughly 21 minutes, around 40 a day, from about 6 EUR. Fares move; these were read on 30 September 2026.
| Leg | Time | From | Trains a day |
|---|---|---|---|
| Paris to Dijon, fastest TGV | 1 h 34 | about 20 EUR | 18 |
| Dijon to Beaune, TER | about 21 min | about 6 EUR | about 40 |
| Beaune to Pommard, Volnay and Meursault | a few hours by bike | inside the 210 EUR bike day | not applicable |
Dijon, the gateway with the direct train
The aerial view shows what Dijon is: a dense medieval centre under the spire of Notre-Dame, with the vineyards out of sight to the south. It is the city with the TGV, the larger hotel stock and the most flexible hours. It is also where the region's cheaper tastings are sold. Nothing on the Dijon side of the ledger is grown within sight of the room, so read those listings as lessons rather than vineyard visits.
The tasting rooms of Dijon
The half-timbered lanes around the centre hold the tasting rooms. The three Dijon masterclasses in our catalogue (35 EUR, 35 EUR and 84 EUR) have 442 reviews between them and score 4.9 to 5.0. They are the honest answer to a wet afternoon or a first lesson in how to read a Burgundy label, and with one grape and one room they keep the learning curve short.
Regional, village, premier cru, grand cru: the ladder you are tasting
Burgundy sells place before grape. At the bottom are regional wines, then village wines named for one of the Côte d'Or's communes, then premier cru plots inside a village, and at the top the 33 grand cru appellations. The grapes are Pinot Noir for red and Chardonnay for white, with Gamay and Aligoté in smaller roles.
The tastings follow the ladder closely. The 14-wine day at 285 EUR pours village and premier cru wines and one grand cru, the usual shape of a shared day. A 55 EUR private tasting in Beaune pours seven premier and grand cru wines. The private full day at 750 EUR reaches 12 wines including four premier and grand crus.
A grand cru on a tasting sheet is a glass of one, not a day among all 33.
Distances from Dijon and Beaune
The map marks Dijon and Beaune as the start points and six wine towns between them. Gevrey-Chambertin is the first, about 12 km south of Dijon. Vougeot and Nuits-Saint-Georges follow on the Côte de Nuits, the northern slope that is best known for red wine. Pommard, Meursault and Puligny-Montrachet cluster south of Beaune on the Côte de Beaune, where the whites are.
A private full day from Beaune can cover both slopes in 125 to 150 km, by one operator's own figure. A shared bike day from Beaune stays on the Côte de Beaune, from La Rochepot to Pommard.
Which Burgundy page to open next
Our two Burgundy pages split by format, not by village. The Côte d'Or page is where the comparison between the two slopes lives; the private page is for those who already know they want a driver and a guide of their own.
| Page | Tours | Median price | Typical length | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Côte d'Or Wine Tours (shared days, bikes, Dijon tastings) | 20 | 212 EUR | 1 to 8.5 hours | a first visit, a budget, a day on two wheels |
| Private Burgundy Wine Tours | 18 | 571 EUR | 8 hours | a party of 4 to 7, a chosen list of villages |
Six dates that explain the Côte d'Or
From the abbey that shaped the vineyards to the status the slope holds today.
The origins
1098
Cîteaux is founded
The abbey near Dijon starts the Cistercian order whose monks, over the following centuries, built up the Clos de Vougeot and other plots.
1395
Philip the Bold bans gamay
The duke orders gamay out in favour of pinot, an early step towards the Pinot Noir identity of the Côte d'Or.
1443
The Hôtel-Dieu opens in Beaune
The charitable hospital that is now the Hospices de Beaune. Its wine auction is held every November.
The growth
1934
The Tastevin brotherhood meets at Vougeot
The Confrérie des Chevaliers du Tastevin is founded at the Clos de Vougeot on 16 November.
Today
2015
UNESCO lists the climats
The Climats, terroirs of Burgundy are inscribed as a cultural landscape, more than 1,200 named plots.
When to go, and the week of the Hospices
Picking starts late August and can finish before the end of September: in 2025 the crémant grapes were cut from 18 August and most of the region was done around 20 September. Visiting during the harvest is the most interesting time and the hardest to book. Spring is the quiet alternative.
The Hospices de Beaune auction is the big date. The 166th sale is on Sunday 15 November 2026, the last day of a three-day wine weekend that starts on the Friday. If your trip falls in that window, book the hotel before the tour.

What a tasting costs at the door
Only one door price turned up in a primary source: Domaine Chanson in Beaune lists 25 EUR for six wines in 45 minutes and 40 EUR with a cellar visit. The useful question is what the extra money on a tour buys. On the 210 EUR bike day it buys the bicycle, lunch and a lift back to Beaune. On the 285 EUR route it buys a driver and 14 wines.
| What | Price | Time | What is poured |
|---|---|---|---|
| Crémant factory visit at Montagny-lès-Beaune | 11 EUR | 2 h | 3 crémants de Bourgogne |
| Pinot Noir or Chardonnay masterclass in Dijon | 35 EUR | under 1 h | one grape, one room |
| Private tasting in a Beaune shop | 55 EUR | 1 h 45 | 7 premier and grand cru wines |
| Class in Dijon with cheese and charcuterie | 84 EUR | 2 h | 6 Burgundy wines |
| Shared bike day from Beaune, with lunch | 210 EUR | 7 h | 4 wines plus a 3-wine castle tasting |
| Small group, 14 wines, Grands Crus route | 285 EUR | 8.5 h | village, premier cru and one grand cru |
Questions about Burgundy wine tours
Is Burgundy worth visiting from Paris in a day?
It is possible and rarely a good idea. The TGV takes 1 h 34 each way, and Paris-based private tours are long: the one in our catalogue lasts 13 hours and costs 2,353 EUR before any tasting. Sleep one night in Beaune instead and book a tour from there.
Beaune or Dijon for wine tours?
Beaune, for the day tours. Most of the vineyard days leave from there and it is 20 minutes from the first wine villages. Dijon is better for city time and for the cheap tastings in tasting rooms, but the vines are a drive away.
Do I need a car?
No. The TER connects Dijon and Beaune in about 21 minutes and every vineyard tour in our catalogue includes transport or a bike. If you drive yourself, the French limit is 0.5 g/l of blood alcohol, so a tasting day and a rental car do not mix.
Can I taste at Romanée-Conti?
Not on the tours we list. The itineraries that mention it say "pass beside" or "stop at" the vineyard, which means the plot at the roadside. Tastings happen at other domaines.
What is a climat?
A named plot of vineyard with its own soil, slope and history. There are more than 1,200 in the area inscribed by UNESCO in 2015, and they are the units the village, premier cru and grand cru levels are built on.
When is the best time to go?
May, June, September and October. September brings the harvest and the best atmosphere, but also the busiest cellars. Mid November is the Hospices auction weekend.
