Maipo and Casablanca wine tours from Santiago
Two valleys, 40 tours: Maipo at a median 87 EUR for 4.5 hours, Casablanca at 130 EUR for 9. Thirteen of the western 20 are Valparaíso days.
Two valleys, two different days. Half of the 40 tours go south to the Maipo Valley, cost a median of 87 EUR and last about four and a half hours. The other half go west towards Casablanca and the coast, cost a median of 130 EUR and take nine. Thirteen of those western 20 are named after Valparaíso, not after a winery, which is the detail that changes what you should book. This page is for the moment after you have decided on Chile and before you pick a tour: where the cellars are, what each valley makes, which roads lead there from Santiago, what a tasting costs at the gate, and which of the two tour pages fits the day you have. One warning before the detail: the rating of 4.84 that covers all 40 tours leans on two listings, one per valley, both run by Stamp's Tour, which together hold 48% of the reviews.
The two leaf pages go through the 20 tours of each valley one by one, and this page does not repeat them. It works one level up: the geography, the wine styles, the dates that explain why four names keep coming back, and the booking rules that decide whether you get the slot you want. Figures are per person as listed, read on 30 September 2026.

Maipo or Casablanca: what actually differs
The shortest way to put it is that Maipo is an estate visit and Casablanca is a road trip. The Maipo estates are around 40 to 45 minutes from Santiago, close enough that a four-hour listing includes the drive, the tour and the tasting with time to spare. Casablanca is about 75 km away and Valparaíso about 120 km, so anything that goes there is a long day by construction. That explains the numbers: 95% of the Casablanca listings include hotel pick-up, against 35% in Maipo, because many Maipo listings are short visits to a single cellar, too short to include a transfer.
The wine differs too. Maipo is known for Cabernet Sauvignon and the big Santiago houses. Casablanca is a cool coastal denomination, set by decree in 1994, where morning fog from the Pacific and clay-granite soils suit white grapes, with Sauvignon Blanc and Chardonnay planted on the lower ground, according to Wines of Chile. Casablanca is not a river valley in the geographical sense; the name belongs to the denomination. For the tour-by-tour detail, see Maipo Valley Wine Tours and Casablanca Valley & Valparaíso Wine Tours.
Where the wineries are, and where the tours start
Read the map as two separate directions out of Santiago. Casablanca is west, towards Viña del Mar and Valparaíso, about 75 km out; the Maipo towns of Pirque, Buin and Isla de Maipo lie to the south and south-west. Undurraga, at Talagante, is about 45 minutes away, and Cousiño Macul is in Peñalolén, inside the city. No listing we found combines the two valleys in one day, which is sensible: they are in opposite directions and each deserves its own morning.
The coast is part of the Casablanca trip
Valparaíso is a port on hills, about 120 km from Santiago, and UNESCO listed its historic quarter in 2003. Its funiculars, painted houses and street art fill the itinerary of nearly every Casablanca tour, and on the biggest one, 26 stops are listed for a single day with one winery among them.
That is a perfectly good day, as long as you book it for what it is. If you want the wine to be the main event, the wine-first Casablanca listings are fewer, usually dearer and worth finding. The leaf page separates the two.

The two tour pages
Each one lists 20 tours with prices and reviews.
What each valley costs, and what the spread says
The two bars overlap, which is the useful part. A Maipo listing above 87 EUR and a Casablanca listing below 121 EUR are competing for the same buyer, and for that buyer the question is not price but what the day contains. The cheapest Maipo listings, from 24 to 63 EUR, are cellar tickets. The cheapest Casablanca ones, from 55 EUR, are the Valparaíso days. A 55 EUR Casablanca tour and a 49 EUR Undurraga half day cannot be compared on price; they sell different things.
In Maipo you pay for the cellar. In Casablanca you pay for the road.
Two hundred years of a short list of names
Houses and denominations
Dates from each house's own site where we could read it, otherwise from Wikipedia.
The origins
1856
Cousiño Macul is founded
The estate in Peñalolén, now inside Santiago, is among the oldest names visitors can tour; its own site gives the date.
1883
Concha y Toro
The house that later put Casillero del Diablo on the market (1966) and Don Melchor (1987) opens at Pirque.
The growth
1994
Casablanca becomes a denomination
A decree creates the Casablanca Valley DO, and Carménère is identified the same year.
1996
Colchagua Wine Route
Wine tourism is organised into a route in a valley further south.
Today
2003
Valparaíso listed by UNESCO
The port's historic quarter becomes a World Heritage Site, which gives Casablanca tours their second reason to exist.
The short list matters because four names recur in the Maipo listings: Concha y Toro, Santa Rita, Cousiño Macul and Undurraga. Together they appear in 12 of the 20 Maipo titles, so the choice on that leaf is mostly a choice of house.

Santiago sits against the Andes
Every Maipo trip starts in a city built at the foot of the mountains, and the tours make something of it: one of the biggest describes the valley as sitting between the Andes and the Pacific. On a clear day, in winter especially, the snow on the range is the first thing you see when you leave the hotel.
The vineyards lie on the plain south of the city. You drive through suburbs before the first row of vines, which explains why the Maipo houses sell so well as half days and why the far more spectacular Andean scenery is not part of a wine itinerary.
Book ahead, or just turn up?
Book. The estates run set departures, and a missed slot means waiting for the next one. Undurraga's Founders tour runs only Monday to Saturday at 12:00, and its one-hour tour has four Spanish and two English starts. Two of the biggest group tours can also be cancelled after you book if too few people join: the Valparaíso day needs at least 2 travellers and the four-vineyard Maipo day at least 4, and in that case you are offered an alternative or a refund. Free cancellation up to 24 hours is standard on the Viator listings we checked.

Questions about Maipo and Casablanca
Maipo or Casablanca for a first day trip from Santiago?
Maipo if you want wine first, a short day and a famous name. Casablanca if you want the coast too and can give nine hours. By our reading of the titles only seven of the 20 Casablanca listings are wine-first, so read the itinerary before paying.
Can I visit both valleys in one day?
We found no listing that combines them. Casablanca lies about 75 km west of Santiago and the Maipo estates to the south, in opposite directions, so a single day would be mostly driving. Treat them as two outings.
Can cruise passengers do a Chile wine tour?
Yes. Three Casablanca listings handle the port: one drops you at the cruise terminal in San Antonio, one runs a transfer from Santiago to the Valparaíso cruise port with a winery visit, and one is a small-group pre- or post-cruise tour. Ask about luggage; one operator says dropping at the port means skipping the winery.
Do I need to book a winery visit in advance?
Yes, for anything beyond a walk-in tasting room. Undurraga publishes fixed start times and the Founders tour runs Monday to Saturday only. Concha y Toro has an online portal with four experiences. Booking also lets you pick the language.
Is Casablanca a valley?
As a denomination, yes; as geography, not quite. The name belongs to a wine zone created by decree in 1994 and to the town of Casablanca, and the region has no river of its own. You will see it marketed both ways.
Which valley has the better wine?
That depends on what you drink. Maipo is best known for red wine and the big houses; Casablanca, cooler and foggier, is known for white grapes such as Sauvignon Blanc and Chardonnay. A tour can only show what its stops pour, so the list of cellars matters more than the valley.
