Maipo Valley Wine and Food Trail: Three Vineyards, Fire-Grilled Lunch, Pisco
This full day in the Maipo Valley runs from a Chilean breakfast sampler to a last tasting in a historic winery, with lunch cooked over fire in between. Pickup in Santiago starts at 7:30 AM and the drop-off is around 6:00 to 6:30 pm. The first vineyard sits between the hills and the Maipo River. It starts with traditional Chilean breakfast foods, then a walk through the vineyard, the production areas and the cellars. Alpacas, llamas and chickens live on the farm and help keep weeds and pests down. The wine tasting comes with a sample of Chilean pisco. A trail through avocado fields leads toward the river and the second vineyard, where three wines are tasted outdoors. Lunch is at Labranza Restaurant. The chef picks seasonal ingredients, cooks them in front of the table and serves them straight from the fire. The drinks list includes a house pisco sour and a beer brewed with pure Andean water. Meals are not listed among the inclusions, so check with the operator whether lunch is covered by the ticket. The last stop is one of Chile's best-known wineries. The group walks through its parks, historic cellars and underground caves, has a final tasting and can visit the winery shop before the ride back to the hotel.
