Côte d'Or Wine Tours: Nuits and Beaune Compared
20 tours from 11 to 990 EUR, median 212. One bike day holds 851 of the 2,658 reviews, and five listings never leave a tasting room.
Of the 2,658 reviews on this page, 851 belong to one bike day. That says more about the Côte d'Or than any itinerary does: the listing people pick most is not the minibus route along the Grands Crus, it is a 210 EUR ride from Beaune with lunch and two tastings. The next most reviewed, a small-group minibus day at 133 EUR, visits exactly one cellar. The 20 tours here run from an 11 EUR factory visit to a 990 EUR private day, with a median of 212 EUR, and this page sorts them by what the money buys: how many rooms, cellars and wines, which slope, where you meet. For the region, the train from Paris and the grand cru ladder, read the Burgundy page.
The château in the header is the Clos de Vougeot. Two of the itineraries that stop at it mark the visit as an extra fee, so a photo stop at the wall and a ticket inside are different things. Neither of them pours wine there. The tasting happens at a family estate nearby, which is where a good guide earns the price. Prices on this page are as listed by each operator: per person for the shared tours and, for the private ones, whatever the booking page says the unit is. That last caveat matters more here than anywhere else in France, and the private listings below show why.

Five of these twenty tours never reach a vineyard
Split the list by what you actually do and five groups appear. The smallest group by price is the most reviewed after the bikes: five listings of two hours or less, priced 11 to 84 EUR, are a factory visit and tasting rooms in Dijon and Beaune. They carry 530 reviews, a fifth of the page. They teach well, but they are not a day in the Côte d'Or, and a shopper who sorts by price will meet them first.
| What it is | Listings | Price | Length | Reviews |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Tasting rooms and a crémant factory | 5 | 11 to 84 EUR | 0.8 to 2 h | 530 |
| Half days: a short ride, a 2CV, two-winery drives | 4 | 65 to 235 EUR | 3 to 5 h | 198 |
| Shared minibus days, small group | 6 | 133 to 395 EUR | 5.5 to 8.5 h | 923 |
| Bike and e-bike days | 2 | 210 and 500 EUR | 7 h | 880 |
| Private full days | 3 | 600 to 990 EUR | 7 to 8 h | 127 |
The scatter shows why the median says little. Five dots sit under two hours and under 90 EUR. Ten sit at seven hours or more and spread from 133 to 990 EUR, a sevenfold gap for tours of the same length. Length explains the bottom of this page and nothing at the top of it.
What a 35 EUR Dijon tasting is
The Dijon façades on the photo are where the cheap end is sold. The Pinot Noir and Chardonnay masterclasses (35 EUR each, under an hour) pour wine of one grape in a room, and the two hour class at 84 EUR adds cheese, charcuterie and six wines. A neighbouring 65 EUR bike ride starts in the Dijon suburb of Chenôve, not in the famous villages, and its tasting is white wine and crème de cassis, with cheese and ham.
Fine as an afternoon. Not the Côte d'Or of the brochures.
Count the cellars, not the hours
Among the six shared minibus days, length tells you almost nothing. The 133 EUR day visits one cellar and gives the rest to a walk through Beaune, with premier cru reds and whites poured in the cellar, no lunch and a minimum of four people. The 285 EUR day from Beaune pours 14 wines across three tastings, at Beaune, Nuits-Saint-Georges and Chambolle-Musigny, with one grand cru among them and no lunch either. The two 220 EUR days, from Dijon and from Beaune, share one script: a charcuterie and cheese pairing with wines at an estate, a stop at the Montrachet vineyard and a family winery in Meursault, lunch included.
Three prices, three different days.
Ask for the number of tastings before you ask for the number of hours.
Two wheels: 210 EUR or 500 EUR
The two bike days come from the same operator and are not the same product. The 210 EUR ride goes to the Côte de Beaune: a minivan up the hill, a downhill ride through Pommard, Volnay and Meursault, a castle cellar with three wines, a Pommard winery with four and lunch in a local restaurant. The e-bike day at 500 EUR works the Côte de Nuits from Gevrey-Chambertin to Nuits-Saint-Georges, passes beside the Clos de Vougeot and Romanée-Conti, and includes lunch, electric bikes, two cellars and at least eight wines. It has 29 reviews against 851. Together the two bike days, from one operator, hold 880 of the page's 2,658 reviews, a third of everything.
The listing does not say whether 500 EUR is per person, so check the booking page. At that price per head it is the dearest shared day on the page; split across eight, it is the cheapest.
Barrels, and when the cellar is empty
Cellar visits are part of most days here. The 2CV tour adds a condition: it lists the barrel cellar only outside the harvest and fermentation period.
It is the only listing that says so, but the calendar is the same for every cellar. In September and early October, ask the operator what you will actually see.
Half days: what 150 to 235 EUR buys
The four half-day listings differ by transport more than by wine. The Côte de Nuits half day, 150 EUR for 4 hours from Dijon, visits two wineries, one in the Gevrey-Chambertin area and one around Nuits-Saint-Georges, with photo stops on the Route des Grands Crus. The 2CV tour costs 235 EUR for 3 hours and takes up to three travellers, which works out at about 78 EUR each if you fill the car; it runs the Côte de Beaune through Pommard, Volnay, Meursault and Puligny-Montrachet and ends with one winery and five wines. An 87 EUR small-group trip from Dijon gives you Beaune and a tasting over five hours. All three are honest ways to spend a morning. None of them replaces the full day if the aim is to compare villages.
The four private listings on this page
Four of the twenty are private, and they price very differently: the 2CV at 235 EUR, a bespoke day at 600 EUR, a ten-cru day at 695 EUR and a 990 EUR luxury day. The ten-cru day is the odd one. The same operator lists a private day with six premier and grand crus, three tastings, 15 to 20 wines and lunch at an estate, also at 695 EUR. Ten crus and six crus at one price is either generous or loosely defined, so ask how many tastings the ten actually include. The full private range, including a 55 EUR shop tasting and a 2,353 EUR round trip from Paris, is on the private Burgundy page.
Côte de Nuits or Côte de Beaune?
Most of the listings cover both slopes in a day, but a few stay on one, and that changes the glass. The Côte de Nuits is where the tours name Gevrey-Chambertin, Chambolle-Musigny, Vougeot, Vosne-Romanée and Nuits-Saint-Georges, and the wine they pour is Pinot Noir. The Côte de Beaune is where they name Pommard, Volnay, Meursault, Puligny-Montrachet and Chassagne-Montrachet, and where the white of the Montrachet vineyards belongs, alongside red.
| Slope | Villages the itineraries name | Listings that stay on it | Usual start |
|---|---|---|---|
| Côte de Nuits | Gevrey-Chambertin, Vougeot, Nuits-Saint-Georges | Half day at 150 EUR, e-bike day at 500 EUR | Dijon |
| Côte de Beaune | Pommard, Volnay, Meursault, Puligny-Montrachet | Bike day at 210 EUR, 2CV at 235 EUR, lunch day at 220 EUR from Beaune | Beaune |
| Both | Route des Grands Crus from Gevrey to Meursault | 133 EUR and 285 EUR days, 215 EUR day, private days | Dijon or Beaune |
Eat before you go, and where you meet
Lunch is included on six of the twenty and pickup on four. Everything else starts at a fixed point: the Beaune tourist office on the boulevard for the 285 EUR route and the 2CV, the entrance of the Hospices for the 220 EUR lunch day, Place Darcy near the Dijon station for the 133 EUR day and the Côte de Nuits half day. The operator of the half day warns that in France snacks are usually not served at tastings, to keep the flavour clean, and recommends a good breakfast or lunch first.
Of the listings we opened, two are non-refundable (the 133 EUR day and the 2CV), and the 133 EUR day needs four people to run. The Burgundy page explains the rest of the planning, and the private Burgundy page is for groups that want their own vehicle.
Questions about Côte d'Or wine tours
Is the bike day harder than it sounds?
The 210 EUR ride is downhill after a minivan transfer, the operator calls it suitable for all fitness levels and it needs a minimum of two people. The e-bike day covers more distance and the motor takes the hills. Go easy on the pours either way.
Is a 35 EUR tasting in Dijon worth it?
As a lesson, yes: one grape, one room, under an hour. It is not a vineyard visit, and nothing on it is grown nearby. Use it for an afternoon when the weather is bad or the train is late.
How many wines do I taste on a full day?
The 285 EUR day pours 14, the bike day 7 across two cellars, the e-bike day at least 8, and the 2CV half day 5. The cheapest full day visits a single cellar, so ask the number first.
Can I visit Clos de Vougeot on these tours?
Two itineraries stop at the château and flag the visit as an extra fee. Others pass it. Check which, because the stop and the ticket are different things.
Do any of these pick up from my hotel?
Four of the twenty include pickup. The rest meet at a fixed point in Beaune or Dijon. The 133 EUR day meets 300 metres from Dijon station.
Is the 500 EUR e-bike day a bargain or a trap?
Neither yet: it has 29 reviews, all at 5.0, and the listing does not spell out the unit of price. Ask before you pay, and compare it with the 210 EUR day, which runs on the Côte de Beaune and has 851 reviews.
