Penedès cava and wine tours from Barcelona

Twenty tours from 21.50 to 798 EUR. Five are cellar-door tickets with no transport, and one titled champagne is a cava day.

Five of the 20 listings on this page are admission tickets to a cellar, priced 21.50 to 36.50 EUR, and not one of the five includes transport. The next cheapest is 60 EUR, and the rest climb to 798 EUR for a horseback ride with a tasting. That staircase, not the median of 104 EUR, is what matters when you look for a Penedès cava tour from Barcelona. The page sorts the 20 listings by what the price buys: a ticket you travel to yourself, a shared half day with transport, a full day in a small group, or a private vehicle. It also says which titles promise more than the description delivers, and it stays out of Montserrat, which has its own page.

Prices are per person as listed, except on private tours, where we could not always confirm the unit and treat the figure as per booking. All details below come from the listings and their itineraries, read on 30 September 2026. Where a title and a description disagree we go with the description, and where a listing gives no detail we say so instead of guessing.

Private days4350 to 798 EUR6 to 9 hoursA vehicle and guide to two or three cellars, one with lunch, one on horseback

The first row is the one people miss. It is also the best value in the catalogue for someone who will be in Barcelona for a few days and wants to see how cava is made without spending a day on it. The R4 commuter line reaches Sant Sadurní d'Anoia in about an hour, and the Codorníu and Freixenet visitor entrances are roughly 1.5 km apart, according to the meeting-point coordinates in the listings.

Chart of the 20 Penedès Cava & Wine Tours listings by price and length, median 104 EUR
Each mark is one listing, by length and price. Fifteen shared tours sit below 225 EUR; the five private ones reach 798 EUR, with three at six hours priced 350, 495 and 798. · Wine Tours Editorial, from the prices of the tours listed on this site

The chart makes a blunt point about the private column. Three private listings last six hours and cost 350, 495 and 798 EUR. They are not three versions of the same tour: one is a private tasting with hotel pickup, one a "high-end" vineyard escape with tapas, and one a horseback ride. The shared listings are tidier, rising from 22 EUR at 1.5 hours to about 125 EUR at five, then jumping at the full days. If you are comparing two shared tours with the same length and a 30 EUR gap, look at the included list, not the title.

Oak barrels stacked in rows along the stone walls of a winery cellar

The cellar door: four names, four different hours

Freixenet is the plain version: 90 minutes, two cavas, 21.50 EUR through Civitatis with free cancellation up to three days before, or 36.50 EUR through Tiqets with a Mediterranean aperitif. Children under 18 are offered grape juice. Codorníu is the one to choose for the building, at 30 EUR: the cellars are a modernist design by Josep Puig i Cadafalch, declared a historic-artistic monument in 1976, and the visit ends with three premium cavas and appetizers after a ride on a small train through the underground galleries.

ArtCava at Can Batlle is 24 EUR for two hours: a walk through the vines, a 12th-century masia and three cavas from a family that has made wine since the 1700s. Bodega Miquel Jané at Font-Rubí is the only one of the four sold as a wine tasting rather than a cava visit, at 35.62 EUR for three hours with several wines, cheese and ham, and a minimum age of 12. You travel to all four yourself.

Shared days from 60 to 125 EUR

This is the crowded middle, and the most reviewed listing in the page sits in it. World Experience sells a six-hour day at 98 EUR with two family wineries, a 4x4 ride through the vines with a viticulturist, four cavas at the first cellar and three wines at the second, with cheese and charcuterie. It has 435 reviews and 4.8. It meets in Les Corts, it does not include hotel pickup, and it can be rescheduled for rain.

Julià Travel's 125 EUR trip to the Torres centre at Pacs del Penedès takes five hours. It meets at Estació del Nord, platform 19, drives about 50 minutes, tours the vineyards and the Waltraud winery, and serves a brunch of bread with tomato, tortilla, escalivada and a chicken dish with four wines including a vermouth. Groups are capped at 25 per guide, children under 18 get grape juice instead, and it needs a minimum number to run. The 82 EUR Miquel Jané menu, the 79 EUR e-bike day with two wineries and the 60 EUR ArtCava workshop fill in the rest.

The church of Sant Bartomeu i Santa Tecla on the seafront in Sitges, Catalonia

Sitges and Easy Cycling's three days

Sitges is the coastal town from which Easy Cycling Sitges runs three well-reviewed listings, each with free hotel pickup in Sitges. A bike tour with a winery visit costs 92 EUR for five hours, a two-winery small-group tour 110 EUR for four, and a paella class with a winery visit and a bike ride 115 EUR for five. Together they hold 268 reviews at 4.9 or 5.0.

The catch is geography. Pickup applies to Sitges, not to Barcelona, and Sitges is a short train ride away. For a visitor sleeping in the city, these days work as a half day out along the coast and into the vines, not as a substitute for the cava cellars in Sant Sadurní, which are inland.

Full days, and the listing that says champagne

Three listings take a whole day. Wino Tours sells a seven-hour cava tour to three family wineries with hotel pickup for 175 EUR and holds 263 reviews at a perfect 5.0. Explore Catalunya caps its ten-hour day at 8 people and three boutique wineries for 199 EUR. The third, at 220 EUR, is titled "Exclusive Champagne & Chocolate Getaway" and is a cava day: you take the train from Plaça Catalunya, about an hour each way, to Sant Sadurní d'Anoia, visit an organic family cava cellar, eat a four-course lunch with half a bottle of wine each, and finish in a chocolate factory. Train tickets and the museum entrance are included. The guides speak German, English and Dutch, not Spanish. It has 24 reviews.

A title can say champagne and sell cava. The law reserves the first word for France, and the description is where you find out which one you are buying.

Private days, and who sells the page

Four privates remain. Barcelona Discovery offers a 350 EUR private cava tasting with hotel pickup. Castlexperience Wine Tours sells a 495 EUR six-hour vineyard escape with cava and tapas and holds 246 reviews. We Are Guides Barcelona charges 675 EUR for nine hours and three organic wineries with lunch. Barcelona By Road tops the page at 798 EUR for six hours on horseback with a tasting and tapas. The ArtCava workshop at 60 EUR for three hours is also private, which is why the private share reads as 25%.

Sixteen operators sit behind the 20 listings, and five of them carry 69% of the reviews: World Experience, Julià Travel, Wino Tours, Castlexperience and Codorníu itself. A weighted rating of 4.83 is therefore partly their rating. The long tail of listings with fewer than ten reviews may be excellent, but the score says nothing yet.

How to choose, and what to avoid

Choose a ticket if you are staying one night near Sant Sadurní or want to add one cellar to a city break. Choose a shared half day if you want transport and two cellars without a full day, and read the meeting point before you pay. Choose a full day if you want lunch and three producers. Choose a private listing only for a particular reason, not to avoid a crowd: four of them cost 350 EUR or more. Two shared listings say they need a minimum number of guests, and one adds that bad weather can reschedule the day; both offer another date or a full refund. Three mistakes recur. People book a ticket expecting pickup. They read "small group" as "hotel pickup" when the meeting point is a train station. And they assume every cava visit is in Sant Sadurní, when the Torres and Miquel Jané visits are at estates in other parts of the Penedès. For the region, read Penedès and Priorat; for the mountain, Montserrat day trips; for tastings in the city, Priorat and Barcelona tastings.

Questions about Penedès cava tours

How much is a cava cellar tour at Freixenet or Codorníu?

Freixenet is 21.50 EUR through Civitatis for 90 minutes and two cavas, or 36.50 EUR with an aperitif through Tiqets. Codorníu is 30 EUR for 90 minutes, three cavas and appetizers. Neither price includes transport.

Can I get to the cava cellars by train?

Yes. Sant Sadurní d'Anoia, where Freixenet and Codorníu stand, is on the Rodalies R4 line. The journey is about an hour from Plaça Catalunya. The cellars are roughly 1.5 km apart, so a taxi or a walk links them. ArtCava will collect from the station if you email it.

Is the Torres winery visit worth 125 EUR?

It is a five-hour half day that includes transport from Estació del Nord, a vineyard and winery tour, and a brunch with four wines. It needs a minimum group, takes up to 9 guests per booking, and children drink juice. It suits someone who wants still wine and food, not cava.

Are these tours suitable for children?

Partly. Freixenet and Torres let children join and give them grape juice. Miquel Jané sets a minimum age of 12. Bike tours from Sitges and the e-bike day need comfort on a saddle. Check each listing's age line.

What is the cheapest real Penedès cava tour?

Freixenet at 21.50 EUR for 90 minutes and two cavas. It is a ticket, not a tour with transport. The cheapest listing with transport or a bike is the 79 EUR e-bike day with two wineries, at 7.5 hours.

Do I need to book ahead?

Yes. Each cellar-door visit is a timed slot, and the shared days need minimum numbers. The Codorníu and Freixenet listings on Tiqets show no refund window, so check the terms before you pay.

If the mountain is the point, not the cava

The Montserrat page reads the 17 day trips, including the two that treat the winery as an option.

Data verified on. Prices, reviews and inclusions read from 20 listings and their itineraries on 30 September 2026. Train times are from the listings; check fares before you travel.
