Half-Day Private Pla de Bages Wine and Olive Oil Tasting from Barcelona, Montserrat Views
Pla de Bages sits between Montserrat, the Castelltallat ranges, Sant Llorenç del Munt and Obac Natural Park. It is a small region, but it inherits the big wine traditions of central Catalonia. Olive oil is just as basic to the Mediterranean diet, where most meals come with a bottle of it on the table, so tasting it here is a way into Catalan culture. This half-day private tour with hotel pickup covers both: a family organic winery and an olive grove with its oil workshop.

Montserrat
Montserrat's distinctive shape is visible from the car on the way to the winery. On arrival, you see the old cellar and the new cellar.
Family organic winery
The visit is to a family-run organic winery that has worked its own vineyards since 1885 and is now in its fifth generation. The tour includes a typical Catalan farmhouse and a walk through the organic vines. The local varieties are white Picapoll, sumoll, mandó and red Picapoll. The production plant and barrel room come next, then two wines with an appetizer and an explanation of each. The wine tasting is followed by a session on olive oil.
Navas
Olive oil sits at the center of the Mediterranean diet, and this stop shows how it is made. You walk through millennial organic olive groves in the Vall d'Hortons countryside, with quiet surroundings and views of the Montserrat mountains. In the workshop where the oil is produced, the process is explained. The stop ends with an oil tasting alongside typical organic Catalan products from Vall d'Hortons: cheese, honey and cold meat.
