Kakheti Day Trip from Tbilisi: Bread Class, Bodbe, Signagi and 7 Wines (4/4)

Kakheti is Georgia's main wine region, and this guided day trip from Tbilisi covers it in nine hours: a bread class, a monastery, a hilltop town and a winery tasting. The group leaves in the morning from Kote Apkhazi 44 in Tbilisi and drives east into Kakheti. After about an hour on the road, the first stop is a small town where a baking masterclass teaches the making of traditional Georgian bread. The loaves come out of the oven and get eaten on the spot. Next is the Monastery of St Nino at Bodbe, founded in the 9th century and one of Georgia's main pilgrimage sites. It holds the tomb of St Nino, who is credited with bringing Christianity to the Georgian people in the 4th century. The grounds look out over the Alazani Valley and, beyond it, the snow-capped Caucasus. Signagi comes after that, a town built on top of a hill and often counted among the most beautiful in the country. There is free time to walk the cobblestone streets and take in more views of the Alazani Valley and the Caucasus peaks. Visitors who prefer a museum can go to the Pirosmanishvili Museum, dedicated to the Georgian artist Nico Pirosmanishvili. The last stop is a local winery. Here you taste seven Georgian wines and hear how wine is made in Kakheti. You also try chacha, a traditional local spirit, and learn how a Georgian toast works. About thirty minutes of free time follow, to have lunch in the area. The group then returns to the original meeting spot in Tbilisi. The whole trip lasts 9 hours.
