Private Kakheti Wine Tours from Tbilisi, with Driver and Guide
Twenty private tours from 54 to 269 EUR, median 106.9. The 9-hour ones alone run from 60 to 269, and the listings do not say if the price is per person or per car.
The dearest private Kakheti wine tour, at 269 EUR, lists two inclusions: WiFi on board and an air-conditioned vehicle. The cheapest, at 54 EUR, lasts seven hours. Between them sit 18 more private tours from Tbilisi, 19 operators in all, and a price that does not follow the hours: the nine-hour tours alone run from 60 to 269 EUR.
This page is about how to read that spread. It sets six listings side by side, from 58 to 269 EUR, shows where lunch and the tastings actually appear, explains the question that the feed leaves open, whether the price is for you or for the car, and ends with the five questions worth sending to an operator before you book. The group minibus days at 12 to 35 EUR are on the day trips page.
A private tour is what you book when the group day is the wrong shape: a party with small children, a driver who will not drink, a wish to add David Gareja or Telavi, or simply a dislike of a 19-seat minibus. For the region itself, the towns, the marshrutka and the harvest, see Kakheti.

What the dearest and the cheapest private tours list
The 269 EUR listing from Imperial Tours is a nine-hour private tour through Manavi, Bodbe, Sighnaghi and Telavi with the freedom to set your own pace. What it includes is WiFi and air conditioning. Admission to the Sighnaghi museum (5 lari) and to Tsinandali house-museum (15 lari) is listed as not included, and so is food at the end-of-tour restaurant. The wine tastings at Manavi and at the Telavi wine house are described as free. So the price buys a car, a driver-guide and a route, and a listing that reads thin can still be a good day.
The 58 EUR listing at the bottom offers a choice of four packages. Its lunch, or a heavy Georgian dinner with barbecue, depends on the one you pick, and the price shown is the cheapest. A price that varies by package is one more reason to click through to the last screen.
| Price | Length | Party size | Lunch | What is in the day |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 58 EUR | 8 h | Up to 8 | Depends on package | David Gareja, Bodbe, Sighnaghi, an organic cellar, 5 wines and 2 cognacs |
| 111 EUR | 8 h | Up to 15 | Included, at a family home | Manavi fortress, a family cellar with 3 wines and chacha, Sighnaghi, Bodbe. Alcohol included |
| 132 EUR | 10 h | Up to 15 | Optional | 20+ tastings, a qvevri maker, Kindzmarauli, Khareba tunnel, 295 km in all |
| 157 EUR | 7 h | Up to 6 | Not included | A family winery, Bodbe, Sighnaghi, Kindzmarauli. All tastings and fees included |
| 193 EUR | 10 h | Up to 10 | Included, at a family winery | Organic winery in Sighnaghi, lunch at Mukuzani, Khareba. Three tastings in all |
| 269 EUR | 9 h | Up to 15 | Not included | Manavi, Bodbe, Sighnaghi, Telavi. Car and driver-guide. Museum fees extra |
The chart makes the point that the listing pages hide. More hours do not mean more money. The 7-hour tours cost 54 and 157 EUR. The 8-hour ones cost 58 to 148. The single 11-hour tour costs 100. What moves the price is the operator, what is inside the price, and, apparently, how much the seller hopes to get from a traveller who has never been to Georgia. Lunch is one part of it: the six listings that list lunch have a median of 140.5 EUR, the other 14 a median of 101.5.
The family table: where private tours earn their price
Three of the six listings above put a meal at the centre of the day. The 111 EUR day stops at a family home in Kardenakhi for a home-cooked Kakhetian feast, wine included. The 193 EUR one has its lunch at a family winery in Mukuzani, where the winemaker hosts and tastings and meal share a table. The 132 EUR one offers a lunch option on top of 20 tastings.
This is the difference from the minibus day, which at 12 EUR stops at a restaurant along the road and does not include the bill. On a private tour the lunch is the route's hinge, and it is the clearest reason to pay more. If the listing you are reading does not say where lunch happens, ask.
Is the price for you or for the car?
Each of the six listings we read says up to a number of travellers per booking: 6, 8, 10 or 15. None says whether the price is per person or for the whole vehicle, and the chart footnote says the same of private tours in general. The answer changes the page completely. At 111 EUR for an eight-hour day with lunch and wine, a per-person price is fair; a per-car price is a bargain. At 269 EUR, a per-person price for a car and a driver-guide would be very high; a per-car price is fair for a family of six.
Before you compare two private listings, find out the unit. Ask the operator, or look at what the price becomes at checkout for the party you actually have.
The simplest check is to price the same tour for one traveller and for four. If the total changes, the price is per person.
Private Kakheti wine tours and the cost of the road
One of the listings spells out what a long private day is. The 132 EUR tour counts 295 km of driving in ten hours, to a qvevri maker near Vardisubani, the Kindzmarauli factory and Khareba tunnel in Kvareli, and the KTW winery at Patardzeuli, on the other side of the region from Kvareli. That is a great deal of road for twenty tastings, and the listing is honest about it. The tunnel, incidentally, is quoted at three different lengths across the listings on this page: 4.1 km, 7 km and 7.7 km.
The shorter tours are not shorter for lack of ambition. The seven-hour 157 EUR day sticks to Sagarejo, Sighnaghi and Kvareli. The longer days add Telavi or the far side of Kvareli to the Sighnaghi circuit.
Telavi, the royal sites and a date that does not fit
The 269 EUR listing includes Telavi, where guests see an old tree and, in the listing's words, the palace of King Erekle. It calls the palace a "16th-century fortress of King Erekle II". As far as we know, Erekle II reigned in the 18th century, so one of the two is loose. The fortified church of Gremi in the photograph is another royal site in this part of Kakheti. None of the listings we opened stops there.
That is a good question for a private guide, who can change the route in a way that a minibus cannot.
Language, children and the other details the feed mentions
A few private listings carry conditions that matter more than the price. Guiding languages differ: the 111 and 269 EUR days list Russian and English, the 157 and 132 EUR days English only. Several listings, among them the 157 and 193 EUR days, offer infant seats, which a minibus does not. The 193 EUR day warns against it for travellers with cardiovascular problems and says children must be accompanied by an adult. The 132 EUR listing states that the legal drinking age in Georgia is 18.
None of this is exciting. All of it is the kind of line that makes a private tour worth having: someone can answer these questions in advance, and the route can bend to suit the answers. Use the message box.
Two operators, 43% of the reviews
The 19 operators are unevenly known. Traffic Travel LLC has 216 of the 937 reviews, 23%, for its 193 EUR day with lunch and three tastings. 11 Regions • Georgia has 190, 20%, for the 111 EUR family-lunch day. Together they hold 43%, and the weighted rating of 4.95 is mostly theirs. The other 18 listings average under 30 reviews each. Three of them have fewer than ten, and a perfect 5.0 from eight people is not evidence of much.

Questions about private Kakheti wine tours
How much is a private Kakheti wine tour?
The median across 20 listings is 106.9 EUR, from 54 to 269. The middle half runs from about 80 to 160 EUR. The price does not rise with the length of the day: the 9-hour tours cost 60 to 269 EUR.
Is the price per person or per car?
The listings do not say. Each caps the party at 6, 8, 10 or 15 travellers per booking. Price the tour for one traveller and then for your group at checkout: if the total changes, it is per person.
Is lunch included?
In six of the 20 it is listed. The 111 EUR family-lunch day and the 193 EUR Mukuzani day both include it. The 269 EUR day and the 157 EUR day do not. Listings with lunch have a median of 140.5 EUR.
Is pickup included?
Yes, in all 20. A private tour collects you from your hotel in Tbilisi and brings you back, and one listing offers flexible pickup at a location of your choice.
Can I change the route?
On a private tour, in principle, yes. Ask before you book, and ask for examples, because the listings list fixed stops. The longer days add Telavi or Kvareli to the Sighnaghi circuit.
Is a private tour worth it compared with a minibus day?
For a pace of your own, a proper lunch and a non-drinking guide who also drives, yes. For the cheapest route to Bodbe, Sighnaghi and two cellars, no: the group day does that for 12 to 35 EUR.
