The driver collects you from your hotel or apartment at 9:00 AM. The first stop is a village with a traditional bakery, where the tasting is local cheese and Shoti, the Georgian bread. From there the day moves on to the highlights of Kakheti: Sighnaghi, known as the City of Love, and the Bodbe nunnery with its views. A tasting at the KTW wine factory rounds out the route.

  1. KTW Wine Factory, Kakheti

KTW is one of the largest wine factories in Kakheti, and it mixes traditional methods with modern techniques. The visit includes a tasting of a selection of its wines, a look at the range of Georgian wine and at Kakheti's winemaking.

  2. Bodbe Monastery of St. Nino

Bodbe Monastery is 2 km from Sighnaghi and is dedicated to Saint Nino, the saint who spread Christianity in Georgia in the 5th century. She spent her last years here, which is why she is buried in this monastic complex. Visitors come to her tomb and many tell stories of wishes that came true. The garden overlooks the Alazani Valley, and the nuns who live here look after it.

  3. Signagi City Walls

Sighnaghi is a small hillside town in eastern Kakheti, founded in the 17th century under King Erekle II. Locals say it is the only Georgian town with its fortification wall fully preserved, one of the longest in the world, with 27 watchtowers and 6 gates. Climbing the wall gives a view over the Alazani Valley. The town was restyled as a European-looking place in 2007, with narrow cobbled streets and balconies. Its wedding house lets couples marry at any hour, which earned it the name City of Love. Cafes and restaurants pour home-made Kakhetian wines such as Saperavi, Kindzmarauli, Rkatsiteli and Mtsvane.
