Private Kakheti Day Trip from Tbilisi: KTW Tasting, Bodbe and Free Time in Sighnaghi
Most Kakheti tours keep the group behind a guide. This private one does not. The morning is fixed: pickup from the hotel in Tbilisi, then a tasting of 5 wines at KTW, the biggest winery on the route, and a stop at Bodbe Monastery. After that Sighnaghi, the City of Love, is yours for almost the whole day. There is no set programme in town. Visitors can look into small local wineries, museums and wedding houses, try the zipline, eat lunch on a terrace with a view, take photos, and walk. Some places in Sighnaghi have swimming pools, so a swimsuit is worth packing. The day can end in several ways. Travellers can go back to Tbilisi the same evening, or stay the night in Sighnaghi or another hotel in Kakheti and book a private transfer for the following day.

KTW winery in Velistsikhe
KTW (Kakhetian Traditional Winemaking) is one of the largest wine and spirits producers in Georgia and the Caucasus. Founded in 2001, it makes wine, brandy, sparkling wine and chacha, combining traditional Georgian techniques with modern technology. The visit covers the winery and a tasting of 5 Georgian wines and a 10-year brandy. Bring a bottle of water to drink between tastings, and a jacket, since the cellar can be cool. The signature wine is Chkhaveri, a dry white dating to 1880 in the village of Askana, where winemaker Antimoz Chkhaidze used a local grape to create a new type of wine and gave it that name.
Bodbe Monastery of St. Nino
St. Nino's monastery stands in the village of Bodbe, in the Sighnaghi area. The grounds have flower beds, vineyards and a healing spring. Its story is tied to the adoption of Christianity: according to legend, King Miriani dreamed of four stars crossing four Georgian mountains, with a ray falling near Bodbe, and Nino went there to set a cross. She lived in a tent, died there and was buried on the spot. A monastery was built on the site at the start of the 4th century. Her grave lies under the altar, and photographing the altar is strictly forbidden.
Sighnaghi Ethnographic Park
Sighnaghi is a small Kakhetian town that, about ten years ago, was forgotten and dull. Extensive restoration turned it into a tourist centre of cobbled streets and cosy houses with bright red tile roofs, in a southern Italian classical style. Hotels and guest houses now cover most tastes. It is called the town of love because its wedding house lets couples marry at any time without handing in documents first.
