Etna wine tours: 20 compared, with and without the volcano
From 58 to 346 EUR. Thirteen of the 20 add a crater stop and cost 251 at the median; the seven wine-first days cost 69.
Etna wine tours sell two different days under one name. Thirteen of the 20 put a volcano stop before the wine: craters at 1,700 to 2,000 m, a lava cave with a helmet, a short hike. Seven are wine first, and they are the cheap end of the page. The volcano-and-wine listings have a median of 251 EUR and run from 110 to 346. The wine-first seven have a median of 69 EUR, from 58 to 320. A third fact matters as much as either: one 130 EUR listing, the Etna and Wines Tour, says in its inclusions that the wine tasting is not in the price. This page sorts the 20, shows what sits inside each price and explains how to read the volcano's bulletin before you book. The island's wine map is on the Sicily page.
One winery, Gambino in Linguaglossa, is named in the stops of five itineraries, and those five listings carry 43% of all the reviews. The numbers on this page are a small sample with one large influence, and the section on operators shows where it sits. Prices are as listed on 30 September 2026. On private listings the price may be per group, and the section on inclusions shows how to tell. Here, unlike in Campania, the private label does go with a higher price.

Etna wine tours: two products under one name
The sort below follows what each itinerary says, not what the title promises. A listing counts as a volcano day if its stops include craters, lava caves, lava flows or a hike on the mountain. Everything else is wine first, even when it is called an Etna tour.
| Kind | Listings | Price range, median (EUR) | Hours, median | Private | Meal included |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Volcano stop, then wine | 13 | 110 to 346, median 251 | 5 to 8, median 6 | 8 of 13 | 9 of 13 |
| Wine first | 7 | 58 to 320, median 69 | 1.8 to 8, median 5 | 3 of 7 | 4 of 7 |
What the price buys
The blue diamonds sit in a band from 250 to 346 EUR at five to eight hours. The red circles, the shared and small-group days, run from 58 to 155. The median private listing costs 289 EUR and the median shared one 130, so in Etna, unlike in Campania, the private label does move the price.
The exception is at the far left: a 60 EUR private visit of under two hours at one family winery in Linguaglossa. At that price, private means a tasting of your own. Note also that some private listings cap the group tightly, three travellers on the 250 EUR day to the craters, six on the 320 EUR food and wine day, so check whether the price is per person or per group.
The 58 EUR afternoon
The most reviewed listing on the page is also the cheapest of its length. The Wine Tasting Tour from Taormina, run by Noema Viaggi, costs 58 EUR for six hours, carries 151 reviews at 4.8, and is 21% of everything written about Etna tours here. It goes to one winery, Gambino in Linguaglossa, on a route that the listing says reaches 800 m, for a cellar visit and four wines with preserved vegetables, Sicilian cheeses, eggs, bread and oil. Pickup is at bus stops in Letojanni, Mazzarò, Naxos and Taormina, and the group is capped at ten.
The cheapest full afternoon on the mountain is a wine tour with one winery and no volcano.
That is the honest benchmark for the rest of the page. Every listing above it is paying for something added: a second winery, a meal, a driver of your own, or a crater.
What the volcano part actually is
The crater stops are not all the same stop. The Silvestri Craters, next to Rifugio Sapienza at about 2,000 m, are named in five listings. The Sartorius craters, at about 1,700 m on the north side, appear in two. Lava caves or tubes with helmets and torches are in six, a walk on Monte Vetore above Belpasso in one, and two visit a church buried by the lava of 1669. Five name the Oro d'Etna honey producer at Zafferana Etnea before the wine.
The 130 EUR day adds the Valle del Bove viewpoint and the front of the 1991 to 1993 flow that reached Zafferana. The 110 EUR jeep day reaches the 1992 flow by 4x4. The cable car to higher ground is always an extra: the three listings that price it ask 50, 65 and 78 EUR.
Before you book: the volcano
Etna is an active volcano, and a page like this cannot tell you what it is doing on the day you read it. The Osservatorio Etneo of the INGV publishes a monitoring bulletin every week. Read the latest on the INGV Catania site when you book and again before you leave. If it reports activity at the summit craters, ask your operator what changes.
What can change is the crater stop. The summit area is regulated by prefectural orders that move with the volcano's alert phase, according to local guide associations, and vineyards at 450 to 1,100 m sit far below it. Listings also carry their own fallback: the eight-hour trekking day says that in winter, or with ice and snow on the roads, it may run at lower altitudes. A good operator will tell you beforehand what replaces the crater and whether the price moves. It is a fair question to ask.
Read the inclusions: four listings that surprise
| Listing | Price (EUR) | Headline | What the inclusions say |
|---|---|---|---|
| Etna and Wines Tour | 130 | Seven hours: lava cave, Silvestri craters, Valle del Bove, lava front, winery | Not included: the cost of the wine tasting, which varies by winery and package |
| Etna Food and Wine Tour from Taormina | 320 | Seven hours, private transport, lunch | Meets in Linguaglossa, not Taormina; one glass with lunch is included and extra wine is charged; up to 6 travellers |
| Private and Guided Tour on Etna | 250 | Five hours, private, four Etna wines | Capped at 3 travellers; the optional cable car is 50 EUR per adult on top |
| Private Etna from Messina Cruise Terminal | 310 | Six hours, private, lunch in the cellar in the title | The description calls the winery optional; the inclusions list a food and wine tasting at a winery; the cable car is 65 EUR extra |
None of these is a bad listing. They are the ones where the headline and the inclusions describe slightly different days, which is why the inclusions come before the price in any comparison. The 310 EUR listing is the one to ask about: if the winery is optional, so is the wine, and so is part of the price.
Soft trekking, with a bottle at the end
Three of the volcano days are walks or close to it. The 155 EUR Etna trekking and wine tasting takes eight hours, goes up to extinct craters at about 2,000 m, enters a lava cave and ends in a cellar with lunch; it asks for hiking shoes and a jacket. The 143 EUR day from Lady Etna takes seven hours, includes poles, helmets and torches, and serves alcohol only to those 21 or over, with a non-alcoholic menu for children. The 110 EUR jeep day goes into lava tubes, visits a winery and finishes with a Sicilian brunch.
Fitness levels are stated loosely. Most listings say all levels; Lady Etna advises against the day for spinal injuries, pregnancy and poor cardiovascular health.
The seven wine-first listings
| Price (EUR) | Hours | What it is |
|---|---|---|
| 58 | 6 | Cellar visit and four wines at Gambino in Linguaglossa, from the Taormina coast |
| 60 | 1.8 | Private visit to the Scilio family winery in Linguaglossa, where you meet; lunch and snacks are in the inclusions |
| 65 | 3.5 | Sunset walk and dinner at Etna Urban Winery in San Gregorio di Catania: self-guided vineyard trail, a 1790 palmento, a play corner for children; a shuttle from central Catania costs extra |
| 69 | 2 | Wine and oil tasting from small Etnean producers, up to 6 travellers, meeting in Giardini Naxos |
| 145 | 8 | Castiglione di Sicilia, then two wineries with lunch at the second |
| 270 | 5 | Private transport to a north-slope winery, four wines and a light lunch, up to 8 travellers |
| 320 | 7 | Food and wine with a local family, meeting in Linguaglossa, up to 6 travellers |
Five listings, one winery, and who runs them
The Gambino winery in Linguaglossa is named in the stops of five listings: the 58 EUR afternoon, the 250 EUR private day, a 143 EUR walking day, and two 289 EUR days that say Gambino or Murgo. Together they hold 311 of the 721 reviews, 43%. There are 17 operators on the page. Noema Viaggi leads with 21%. Prestelli Sicily Tours runs three listings, two from the Messina cruise terminal and one from Catania, with 61 reviews between them, and Sicily with Love runs two.
The consequence is simple. The 4.86 weighted rating is, for a large part, an opinion of one afternoon at one winery. It is a fine afternoon. It is not the same as the rating of a crater day.
How to choose
If you want the crater, expect 110 to 155 EUR shared or 250 to 346 EUR private, and five to eight hours. If you want wine only, the 58 to 69 EUR group is the place to start. If you want a proper meal and two wineries without a private car, the 145 EUR day from Taormina is the one listing built that way. With children, Etna Urban Winery is the one that says so, and Lady Etna offers a non-alcoholic tasting menu.
Questions about Etna wine tours
Do I have to be fit?
Most listings say all fitness levels. The private Messina terminal day asks for at least a moderate level, the trekking day asks for hiking shoes and a jacket, and Lady Etna advises against the day for spinal injuries, pregnancy and poor cardiovascular health. The wine-first days need only comfortable shoes.
Is the price per person?
The listings do not always say. Shared days are normally per person. On private ones, check the booking page: the 250 EUR day is capped at three travellers and the 320 EUR day at six, and group caps are a clue that the price may be for the car.
What happens if Etna is erupting?
The crater stop can change or move lower, and the winery visit normally does not. Read the INGV bulletin when you book and before you leave, and ask the operator what replaces the stop and whether the price changes.
Can I book from a cruise ship?
Two private days collect at the Messina terminal, 346 and 310 EUR for six hours, and a 110 EUR jeep day names Catania cruise passengers. The 346 EUR day includes lunch at a winery; on the 310 EUR day the description calls the winery optional, so ask. Allow for your own boarding time either way.
Is there a cheap Etna tour with no volcano?
Yes, four: 58 EUR for six hours at one winery, 60 EUR for a private visit of under two hours, 65 EUR for a sunset walk and dinner, and 69 EUR for a two-hour wine and oil tasting.
When is the harvest, and can I see it?
It runs from September into October and later on the higher ground, per reference sources. No listing promises harvest access, so ask the operator what the winery is doing that week.
The other volcano in the catalogue
Vesuvius tastings run at a median of 95 EUR, and private there does not cost more.
Data verified on. Prices, hours, inclusions, stops and reviews read from the 20 listings on 30 September 2026. Volcano status is not stated here; see INGV.
