Mount Etna is Europe's highest active volcano, and this private guided day takes in both its upper slopes and its food. It starts with a pickup from the hotel or accommodation, then a drive up to 2000 meters above sea level to the Silvestri Craters. Guests walk over the extinct craters, with a view across Etna and the city of Catania, and hear about past eruptions. The route then descends to Zafferana Etnea for the wine part of the day. The first stop is a beekeeping company, where olive oil, wine, olives and honey are there to taste. The last stop is a tasting of four Etna wines, served with a platter of local cheeses, cold cuts, sun-dried tomatoes, eggplants and other typical products.

  1. Mount Etna

The south side of Etna, at 2000 meters. Guests can walk on the now extinct Silvestri Craters and look out from that altitude. Bars, restaurants and souvenir shops are nearby.

  2. Valle Del Bove

The Valle del Bove is a large basin on the eastern side of the volcano, inside the protected area of the Etna Park. It dates back 64,000 years, to the collapse of the eruptive centers of Trifoglietto I and Trifoglietto II, predecessors of Etna. The collapse formed a caldera 1 kilometer deep and 5 kilometers wide.

  3. Oro d'Etna

Zafferana Etnea is known as the city of honey, and Oro d'Etna is the area's best honey producer. A free tasting of honey, typical products, olive oil and wine is included.

  4. Gambino Winery

Gambino Vini is one of the most renowned wineries in the Etna area. The day ends here with its best wines, paired with typical local products and km 0 food.
