This is a private day on Etna, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, built around three things: local produce, the volcano itself and a long lunch in a cellar. A destination expert who speaks English drives and guides the group throughout. The first stop is Zafferana, for a private tasting of 20 honeys, volcanic oils and organic products from the immediate area. The road then climbs to about 2,000 meters and the Silvestri Craters, where the ground is lunar, there are old lava caves to see and the crowds are left behind. The last stop is the main event: a visit to Cantine Gambino or Cantine Murgo, both described as top-five names among Etna's wineries. A walk through old vineyards comes first, then a private lunch with four DOC wines, each matched to a Sicilian dish. Pick-up can be arranged from Taormina, Catania, Messina or Porto, in premium vehicles with Wi-Fi.

  1. Taormina

The day opens with a private transfer and an English-speaking driver-guide who knows Sicilian history and traditions. Pick-up is available in Catania, Taormina, Messina, nearby areas and at the port piers. The exact meeting point is agreed by direct contact before the tour, so the start runs on time.

  2. Oro d'Etna

A local estate for a tasting of organic, zero-kilometer products: artisan honey, extra virgin olive oil, olives from local cultivars and indigenous Sicilian wines.

  3. Craters Silvestri of Mount Etna

A drive up through Etna's lava fields to Rifugio Sapienza, at about 2,000 m. The plan includes the Silvestri Craters and a lava flow cave, with time for the view. Short optional walks are possible.

  4. Mount Etna

A break at Rifugio Sapienza, about 2,000 meters above sea level and one of the main access points to Etna's summit area, with a taste of local chocolate. Visitors can walk on volcanic soil, touch the lava rock and look out over the surrounding terrain.

  5. Gambino Winery

The tasting is held at Cantine Gambino or Cantine Murgo, two long-standing Etna producers ranked among the top 5 of more than 400 wineries on the mountain. Both were early names in the return of DOC wines. A guided tasting of 4 labels follows, each poured with a local food pairing.

  6. Taormina

The tour ends with a transfer back to the agreed starting point.
