Private Etna Tour from Catania: Zafferana Honey, Sapienza and Winery Lunch with 4 Wines
This private tour leaves from Catania and is run by a guide who stays with your party alone. The air-conditioned car covers Etna, Europe's highest active volcano, and the guide talks about how it formed, its eruptions, and the myths and folklore of "Mamma Etna" and Sicily. The route passes through mountain villages and reaches Rifugio Sapienza at 2,000 meters. There are the Silvestri Craters, lava souvenir shops and a bar or restaurant for a break. A cable car and jeep ascent to 3,000 meters with an authorized Alpine guide is available as an option. The last part is a visit to a winery on Etna's slope, with lunch of fresh local food and red and white Sicilian wines. Closed-toe shoes and extra layers, including a windbreaker, are recommended.

Catania
The guide collects you at your accommodation or the port in Catania. The air-conditioned car crosses small mountain villages and countryside of orange and lemon groves, olive and almond trees, and houses and churches built of lava stone. With sea views and lava fields along the way, you reach Zafferana Etnea and a local honey store, where honey, olive oils, olives, wines and liqueurs are tasted. Wear closed-toe shoes and bring layers, such as a windbreaker or rain jacket, for changing weather.
Mount Etna
The climb continues to Rifugio Sapienza, at 2,000 m, for the Silvestri Craters, the views, souvenir shops with lava gifts and a bar or restaurant. A cable car and 4x4 ascent to 3,000 m with an authorized Alpine guide is optional. The guide then drives on to a family-run winery on Etna's slope, with a tour of the estate and cellars while a sommelier explains the winemaking and the winery's history. Lunch is local cheeses, salami, prosciutto, fresh bread, olives, home-made olive oil and a typical pasta dish, with 4 glasses of Etna red and white wine. The guide then drops you at your accommodation or the port in Catania.
