Private Etna Tour from Messina Cruise Terminal with Sartorius Craters and Winery Lunch
Built for cruise passengers and hotel guests in Messina, this is a private car tour of Etna, Europe's highest active volcano. The car is air-conditioned and only your own party rides in it. The guide talks on the road. Topics include how the volcano formed, its eruptions, and the myths and folklore of "Mamma Etna" and Sicily. The route passes through small mountain villages to a local honey store, where the produce of the volcanic soil is tasted, then climbs to extinct craters with wide views. The day ends at a family-run winery on Etna's slope, with a lunch of fresh local food and Etna red and white wines. Comfortable closed-toe shoes are recommended, along with extra layers, a windbreaker or a rain jacket, as the weather can change.

Messina
The guide collects you at your accommodation or the port in Messina and the drive toward Etna begins. The air-conditioned car crosses small mountain villages and countryside of orange and lemon groves, olive and almond trees, and houses and churches built of lava stone. With the sea on one side and lava fields on the other, you reach a mountain town and a local honey store, where honey, olive oils, olives, wines and liqueurs are tasted. Wear closed-toe shoes and bring layers, such as a windbreaker or rain jacket, for changing weather.
Mount Etna
The climb continues to the Sartorius Craters (1,700 m). Here are extinct craters and views toward the coast, in a quieter part of Etna. The guide then drives on to a family-run winery on the volcano's slope. A tour of the estate shows the vines growing, then the cellars, while a sommelier explains the winemaking and the winery's history. Lunch is local cheeses, salami, prosciutto, fresh bread, olives, home-made olive oil and a typical pasta dish, with 4 glasses of Etna red and white wine poured by the sommelier. Afterward the guide drops you at your accommodation or the port in Messina.
