Private and Small-Group Arrábida Wine Tours from Lisbon
Twenty day trips from 70 to 420 EUR, median 137. Fifteen are private, three include lunch, and the cheapest group days last eight or nine hours.
Fifteen of the twenty listings on this page are private, and those fifteen carry 73% of the reviews. So the usual question, group or private, is here a question about a market that is already mostly private. What moves the price is the clock: a small-group day of eight or nine hours costs 72 to 76 EUR, while a four-hour group tour to two wineries costs 98 EUR. This page sorts the twenty by length, lunch, winery choice and operator. The wines, the distances and the history of the peninsula are on the Lisbon and Arrábida page. Here you will find what each of these days contains and what to check before paying. The short answer is that length and lunch explain most of the price, the winery named on a listing is not always the winery you visit, and three operators account for most of what past guests have said.
Prices are the ones on the listings on 30 September 2026. The dearest one, 420 EUR for up to eight travelers, does not say whether that is per person or for the group, so every price below is "as listed" and the traveler cap on the booking page is worth reading. Hours, lunch and pickup come from the same listings and from the itineraries of the most reviewed ones. Ratings are weighted by the number of reviews, so a few operators count for more, and the text says when that matters.

Arrábida wine tours from Lisbon: what moves the price
Read the chart from the left. The five group listings sit between 70 and 150 EUR, and the three cheapest all run six to nine hours: 72 EUR for eight hours with Arrábida and Sesimbra, 76 EUR for nine hours with cellars and a tile factory, 70 EUR for six hours around Azeitão. The fifteen private listings start at 115 EUR and then spread out to 420. What separates them is the hours and what the day adds.
Per hour, as listed, the long group days cost about 8 to 12 EUR, a typical private day 16 to 20, and the four-hour group tour to two wineries nearly 25. The shorter the day, the more you pay for each hour of it.
| What you buy | Listings | Price as listed | Length | What is in it |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Small group, full day | 3 | 70 to 76 EUR | 6 to 9 hours | Cellars in Azeitão, Arrábida, Sesimbra or a tile workshop |
| Small group, short | 2 | 98 to 150 EUR | 4 to 5.5 hours | Two wineries, or one winery and the Setúbal fish market |
| Private, 4 to 6 hours | 5 | 122 to 135 EUR (one at 420) | 4 to 6 hours | Two or three wineries, lunch on two of them |
| Private, 7 to 9 hours | 10 | 115 to 225 EUR, median 162 | 7 to 9 hours | Two or three wineries, Arrábida park, often Sesimbra |
The private half day is the format most people overpay for. Four of the five private listings of four to six hours cost 122 to 135 EUR, about 35 EUR less than the median full private day of 162.50 EUR, which buys a few more hours and a longer coast drive. The fifth is the 420 EUR Badger Tours listing, which starts and ends at a shop in Sesimbra, not in Lisbon. Its appeal is a hand-built itinerary for people already on the peninsula, not a cheaper way to see Setúbal.
The winery named on the listing may not be the one you visit
Read the itinerary stops as a menu. The most reviewed listing on the page, with 983 reviews, says you will visit "either this winery or JMF", and the same again for a second pair of estates, "subject to availability". Another private listing, with 635 reviews, states that the operator picks the cellars depending on availability and the weather, and promises only that José Maria da Fonseca is always one of them. The two estates it names are family-run, one founded in 1834 and one in 1913.
A winery name in an itinerary is a candidate, not a booking. If you want one cellar in particular, say so when you reserve, not at the pickup.
That matters more on a private day, where the operator can change the route, and less on a group day, where the route is fixed. It also matters for the cost of the tasting. The first listing above pours three wines at one cellar and lunch is not included; the 635-review listing counts seven to ten wines in total over the day.
Half a day or nine hours
The photo looks over the coast from the slopes of the Arrábida natural park, a view that the long days stop for and the four-hour days can skip. Two of the twenty listings last four hours, a further one five and a half, and two run the full nine.
The long days carry more stops: the most reviewed one has eleven on its itinerary, from the Livramento market in Setúbal to the Cristo Rei statue and the 25 de Abril bridge on the way back. A short day has two cellars and the road between them. Decide how much you want to sit in a car before you decide how much you want to pay.
Lunch is included on three of the twenty
Lunch is the clearest gap between what a title promises and what the ticket covers. Only 3 of the 20 include it: the 139 EUR private day with three wineries and lunch, a 135 EUR private day from the same operator as the 125 EUR one, and the 125 EUR private tour that lets you pick either three cellars or two cellars and a full meal in a family restaurant in Palmela. The rest leave lunch to you. Where they name a place, it is often a restaurant at Portinho da Arrábida, on the water, or in Azeitão.
The 983-review listing says plainly that the restaurant is "not included", though its description talks about a Portuguese lunch. Count it as an extra of perhaps an hour and a meal's cost. On Mondays the 125 EUR private tour has no lunch option at all, and the Setúbal market that the most reviewed tour visits is shut.
Sesimbra: five titles, one castle
Sesimbra is in five of the twenty titles, more than Palmela, which is in one. The town in the photo is on the Atlantic side of the peninsula, and the most reviewed itinerary stops at its medieval castle for the view, with an optional visit to a Baroque church. Another listing sells a half day of Arrábida with a wine tasting in Sesimbra itself for 122 EUR.
It is also where the dearest listing begins. Badger Tours meets guests at its shop on the Sesimbra waterfront and returns them there. If you are staying in Lisbon, that adds a transfer before the day begins.
Three operators hold 62% of the reviews
Andre Marques has one listing, 983 reviews, 27% of the page. TakingUThere has two, 19%, at 4.9 and 5.0. Inside Lisbon has two, 17%, at 4.8 and 4.9. Together they hold 62% of the 3,641 reviews, so the weighted rating of 4.84 is largely their rating. It is a good one: only a single listing rates below 4.8, the four-hour group tour at 4.6. But a very high average tells you the top three operators are consistent, not that the other fifteen have been tested. Eleven listings have fewer than fifty reviews, and eight of them are at 5.0, which at that count can be a handful of guests.
How to choose, and what goes wrong
Pick by the clock first. If you want the coast, the Serra and a market, take a nine-hour day and keep the 72 to 76 EUR group days in mind. If you want to taste and go, choose a private half day at 122 to 135 EUR. Check three things before paying: the meeting point, because one Setúbal listing starts in Sesimbra; the lunch line, because the description often says more than the price includes; and the day of the week, because Mondays change the menu.
Two common mistakes. The first is booking a named cellar on a listing that reserves the right to change it. The second is treating "private" as a synonym for "more time in the cellar": the private days we read list two or three cellars, the same as the group days. Hours and guide language, which varies from English alone to German, French and Spanish, are better reasons to pay more. If your plan is two hours and a glass, the Lisbon wine tastings are a different product entirely.
Questions about Arrábida and Setúbal wine tours from Lisbon
Do I need a car to see the Setúbal wineries?
No. Seventeen of the twenty listings collect you from a hotel or address in Lisbon, and a tour lets you taste without driving. We have not checked bus timetables to the peninsula, and the limit is 0.5 g/l, or 0.2 for new and professional drivers, so a tour is the simpler way to drink at several cellars.
Is a private tour worth it for two people?
It can be. The private days we read start at 115 EUR for seven hours, against 72 to 76 EUR for the eight and nine hour group days. You pay for a fixed time and a route you can adjust. One popular private tour asks for at least two people per booking.
Can I choose the wineries?
On private tours you can ask. Listings often name two candidates per stop, "subject to availability", and one says it selects cellars by availability and weather. One cellar, José Maria da Fonseca, is promised on the 635-review private tour. Write your request when you book.
How many wineries will I visit, and how many wines?
Two or three. The private Setúbal tours list two estates or three, and the dearest names three cellars with two or three wines in each. One operator counts seven to ten wines across the whole day. The four-hour group tour sticks to two wineries.
Can I book from a cruise ship?
Yes, on at least one private listing. You give the ship name and the disembarkation and reboarding times when you book. The listing says refunds are not issued if you miss the tour because the ship is late, so leave a wide margin.
Is it better to go on a weekday?
Mondays are the day to avoid. The Setúbal market on the most reviewed itinerary is closed, and the 125 EUR private tour has no lunch option. On other days the tours run as described, though each operator sets its own calendar.
Short on time?
Twelve tastings in and around Lisbon, from 17 to 65 EUR, most of them two hours long.
