The Setúbal wine region is only 40 minutes from Lisbon. This tour visits two local wineries, and at each one the story comes first: the history of the farm, the families who founded it and the traditions still kept today. Between the two visits, 6 to 7 different wines are tasted, including the exclusive Moscatel Roxo de Setúbal. Bottles can be bought in the winery shops. The cellars can alternate depending on availability. The tour may change without notice if a cellar has visitor restrictions. Portugal has more than 200 exclusive grape varieties, so the aromas, flavors and styles vary widely. For questions before the visit, the operator can be contacted.

  1. Jose Maria de Fonseca

A family business founded in 1834 that has modernized without resting on its past. It is the oldest producer of table wine and Moscatel de Setúbal in Portugal. It invests in research and production, mixing modern techniques with traditional knowledge. One example is its Alentejo cellar in Reguengos de Monsaraz, where Roman clay-pot fermentation meets current technology.

  2. Bacalhoa Vinhos de Portugal

Bacalhôa Vinhos de Portugal, then called JP Vinhos, moved in 1997 from Pinhal Novo to Azeitão, into a building designed by António d'Avillez. It is a glazed hexagon, with cellars holding thousands of bottles and rows of barrels.

  3. Adega de Palmela

The Palmela cooperative winery, with a wide range of wines, a guided tour and a tasting of regional wines.

  4. Alternative winery stop
