Itinerary

The map could not be loaded. Please try again in a moment.

  1. Serra da Arrabida

A drive through the Serra da Arrábida, with stops to take in the scenery and its history. One of them is the Convento da Arrábida, a quiet, mystical place set in the mountains.

  2. Setubal

The tour starts at the São Domingos viewpoint, a first look at the places visited during the day. A live map replaces the paper one.

  3. Mercado do Livramento

Named one of the best fish markets in the world in 2015. Inside are 1929 tiles by Pedro Pinto showing the city's farming and fishing. The stalls hold many kinds of fish, fruit, vegetables and aromatic herbs.

  4. Convent of Jesus

The Convent of Jesus dates from 1490 and was the first Manueline convent. It is one of the few that survived the 1755 earthquake. Its design is attributed to the Manueline architect Boitaca, and the stonework is dense with symbolism.

  5. Doca dos Pescadores

Lunch at Setúbal's dockside promenade, where restaurants serve fresh regional fish and the city's traditional fried cuttlefish, with a view of the Sado river. Afterward the route continues to Azeitão, long known for wine and cheese and once a resting place for the nobility.

  6. Azeitao

A visit to a small family-run tile workshop. It covers where tiles come from, how they are made, what the colors mean, the ornamentation and the finished piece.

  7. Setubal

The tour ends with five Setúbal Peninsula wines: two white, two red and one late harvest, or a different selection on request. The tasting shows the region's terroir.
