Full-Day Chianti Wine Tour from Florence
Twenty full-day tours, 45 to 980 EUR, median 220. The extra 96 EUR over a half day buys two hours and a lunch. One listing holds 53% of the reviews.
Between the half-day tours from Florence and the full-day ones there is a gap of 96 EUR at the median, 124 against 220, and the listings show what it buys. Two more hours on the road, seven against five. A meal at an estate in 15 of the 20 listings, against 5 of 20 on the half-day page. And a rating of 4.96 against 4.43. This page reads the 20 full-day tours one at a time to see where the extra money goes, which tours sell a real day in the hills and which sell a half day under a bigger name, and what the price leaves out. It is written for the person who has one day in Florence to give to Chianti.
Hills, villages and cellar-door prices are on the Chianti page. The price questions start here. The figures are medians of the 20 listings read on 30 September 2026, quoted as the provider lists them: per person for the shared days, and often per vehicle for the private ones, which is why the private rows are flagged wherever they appear. One more reading rule: a rating on this page is a weighted average, so a listing with 1,574 reviews counts a hundred times more than one with 13.

Where the 96 euros go
Put the two pages next to each other and the extra money does four things. It buys time: the median tour is seven hours, and 15 of the 20 are seven or longer, while the half days run five. It buys a meal, which at an estate is a sit-down lunch of cold cuts, cheeses, bruschetta, pasta and dessert rather than a plate of snacks beside the glasses. It buys a third winery in a few listings, and it buys, in the dearer ones, a smaller party.
It does not buy what the price suggests in every case. The medians are pulled up by private and semi-private tours, which make up a quarter of each page. Among shared tours only, the half day has a median of 90 EUR and the full day 210 EUR, so for a seat in a shared vehicle the premium is nearer 120 EUR than 96.
The gap between a half day and a full day is one lunch and two hours. Anything above that has to be justified by the estate, the group or the car.
| Price band | Listings | Median hours | With lunch | Private | Weighted rating |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Under 100 EUR | 2 | 5 | 0 | 0 | 4.55 |
| 100 to 199 EUR | 6 | 7 | 6 | 1 | 4.98 |
| 200 to 299 EUR | 8 | 7 | 7 | 2 | 4.95 |
| 300 EUR and above | 4 | 8 | 2 | 2 | 4.89 |
The step that matters is the first. Below 100 EUR the two listings are five-hour products with no lunch, and they carry only 37 reviews between them. From 100 EUR the page becomes a day: seven hours, a meal in every listing of the band, and the rating jumps to 4.98. The band from 200 to 299 EUR is the largest, eight listings, and its extra 50 to 100 EUR goes on smaller groups and named estates rather than on time. Above 300 EUR sit a 980 EUR and a 550 EUR private tour, a six-hour two-winery listing at 359 EUR and an organic and biodynamic day at 349 EUR. Two of the four are the page's dearest shared tours, and neither is longer than eight hours.
What a meal at an estate is
The best-reviewed listing describes its lunch as assorted cold cuts, cheeses, bruschetta, pasta and dessert, served with a flight of Chianti Classico, Riserva and Super Tuscan wines. The same operator offers a dinner version of the day, which visits two wineries instead of three.
The other end of the range is the 275 EUR day for up to eight guests that eats at the Panzano butcher Dario Cecchini and tastes around ten wines, with alcoholic drinks stated as included. The listing also says all sales are final, which is unusual enough to check before you commit. A meal is rarely a footnote in these tours. It is half of what you pay for.
The chart has a simple shape. Most of the shared tours cluster between 7 and 8 hours and between 110 and 290 EUR, which is the band a first-time visitor should expect. The two marks at the bottom left are the five-hour coach products, and the diamonds floating above 500 EUR are the private days. One mark sits alone at 10 hours and 290 EUR, which is the minivan run through three denominations described further down.
The one listing behind the 4.96
A single tour from Prestige Rent, sold as a small-group day of Tuscan wineries, olive oil and lunch or dinner, holds 1,574 of the 2,996 reviews, which is 53%, and rates 5.0 at 149 EUR for eight hours. It meets at Piazzale Montelungo at 8:45 at the latest and is back at about 5 pm. The lunch version visits three estates: Tenuta Riseccoli, an organic family winery on a hilltop near Greve, Casa Emma, where the lunch is served, and the Poggio Torselli villa near San Casciano. It adds a 30 to 45 minute stop in Greve between them.
A booking can be for up to 25 people, the minimum age is 12 and hotel pickup is not included. Cruise passengers get a warning: from Livorno or La Spezia the drive to the meeting point takes about two hours, so the ship's timetable has to work with the departure. Take the listing away and the page's weighted rating is 4.92, still among the highest of the five Chianti formats. The 4.96 is a fair guide to the page, although it is one tour's rating more than the page's.
Leaving Florence at 8:45
Full-day tours rarely start later than nine, and they tell you exactly where. The best-reviewed listing asks for a spot opposite the car park at the Piazzale Montelungo bus terminal, looking for staff beside a red flag at the check-in table. A small-group operator meets at its own cheese and wine bar on Via dei Renai, fifteen minutes early. About 45 minutes of driving follows, then the first estate.
The return is the part people forget to plan. A tour that finishes at five in the afternoon leaves no room for a timed museum slot at half past five, and the one that promises a dinner finishes later. Put nothing in your day after the stated return time, and add traffic.
Two listings that are not full days
Two of the 20 are five-hour products that sit on this page because they leave from Florence. The 45 EUR listing is a coach trip with a guide that visits one estate, a vineyard walk and a vinegar cellar, and tastes seven wines with local food. The 89 EUR listing is a day trip with a wine estate visit. Neither includes lunch. Both are honest products at honest prices, and they are the reason the under-100 band exists. They are not what the rest of the page sells.
| Listing | Price | The price includes | It leaves out |
|---|---|---|---|
| Prestige Rent small-group day | 149 EUR | Transport, guide, tastings at three estates, a light lunch | Hotel pickup, gratuities |
| Grape Tours Super Chianti | 275 EUR | About ten wines, lunch at the Panzano butcher, alcoholic drinks | Hotel pickup; the booking is not refundable |
| Private 8-hour day with a driver | 980 EUR | A Mercedes and an English-speaking driver for 8 hours | Both winery tastings and the lunch, about 50 to 60 EUR a person on the spot |
| Coach day with guide (Tiqets) | 45 EUR | Coach, guide, seven wines, local food, a vinegar cellar | Anything you buy at the estate |
Who runs the day
Seventeen operators sell the 20 tours, but four of them hold 80% of the reviews. Prestige Rent alone holds 53%. Grape Tours follows with 12% across two listings, both capped at eight guests, then Towns of Italy with 8% across two and I Just Drive with 7.5% on a single semi-private day to Chianti and San Gimignano. The remaining 13 operators share the last fifth of the reviews, most of them with fewer than 100 each.
That concentration matters for how you read the price. A 149 EUR day from one operator with 1,574 reviews and a 359 EUR day from another with 35 are not the same kind of evidence. The expensive listing may well be better. The page cannot tell you so, and neither can its rating.
When the day is stretched
Four listings mix Chianti with a neighbour. One at 229 EUR and six hours pairs two Chianti wineries with San Gimignano and a lunch. A semi-private day of 8.5 hours goes to Chianti and San Gimignano for 209 EUR. The longest, at 290 EUR and ten hours, takes a minivan through Chianti Classico, Montalcino and Montepulciano with tastings and lunch, which is three denominations and one lunch break. If a long day is what you want, read the Tuscany page before you choose, because Montalcino and Montepulciano are each a day in their own right.
If you want a private car instead of a shared minivan, the private Chianti page works out what the vehicle costs per head at different party sizes.
Questions about full-day Chianti tours from Florence
How many wineries does a full day visit?
Two or three. The best-reviewed listing visits three on its lunch version and two on the dinner version. The 275 EUR day visits two and eats at a butcher. One private day names its wineries only after you book, so check what the listing promises before you pay.
Is lunch included?
In 15 of the 20, and in the six listings between 100 and 199 EUR every one includes a meal. The five without a meal are the two five-hour products, the 980 EUR private day, where tastings and lunch are paid at the estates, a private San Gimignano tour and a wine-and-cheese day.
Is hotel pickup included?
In four of the 20. The others meet at a bus terminal, a station or the operator's own venue, so add the time to get there to your day.
Is 149 EUR for a full day too cheap?
It is the price of the page's best-reviewed listing, which is 53% of the reviews. It includes three estates, a light lunch and an eight-hour day. It does not include hotel pickup or gratuities.
Full day or two half days?
A full day leaves less time lost to the road: seven hours for 220 EUR, against five hours for 124 EUR, which means you get two more hours of the hills for 96 EUR. Two half days double the driving.
What time does the day end?
The best-reviewed listing returns at about 5 pm after an 8:45 start. Others run to 10 hours. Keep the evening free until the stated return.
Want the car to yourself?
The private Chianti tours cost 388 EUR at the median, and the page shows what that becomes per person.
