This small-group day trip leaves Florence for the Tuscan wine country and visits three wine estates with a guide. Along the way come Greve in Chianti, a light Tuscan lunch, and tastings that put different wines, olive oils and other local products side by side. The three estates differ in size and style, so the tastings work as a comparison of how three producers in the area make their wine. The group returns to Florence in the afternoon.

  1. Piazzale Montelungo, Firenze

8:45 am at the latest. The staff wait on the left side of the street, opposite the parking lot. Look for the PRESTIGE RENT staff near a red flag and the check-in table.

  2. Florence

The guide and the group meet in Florence and set off toward the Tuscan wine country. On the drive the guide explains the schedule for the day.

  3. Tenuta Riseccoli

After a 45-minute ride, the first stop is Riseccoli, an organic, family-owned winery on a hilltop. Rolling hills planted with vines and olive trees, Mediterranean forest and scattered farmhouses surround the estate. A visit is followed by a tasting of wines and olive oil.

  4. Greve in Chianti

Greve in Chianti is a typical village of the Chianti Classico countryside and the birthplace of the Tuscan explorer Giovanni da Verrazzano, who reached New York Harbor. About 30 to 45 minutes here cover Piazza Matteotti, a gently sloping square at the center of village life, and the local shops and wine stores, including the Falorni butcher shop.

  5. Strada Statale 222 Chiantigiana

From Greve, a 30-minute ride along the best-known Tuscan wine road, past rolling hills, large vineyards and olive trees, leads to the second winery.

  6. Casa Emma wine tasting

The visit opens with the history of the estate and an explanation of how Chianti red wine and Tuscan olive oil are made. Afterwards comes a typical Tuscan light lunch paired with different wines (Chianti Classico, Riserva, Super Tuscans and others) and olive oil, a staple of Italian cooking.

  7. Poggio Torselli

The last stop is Villa Poggio Torselli, a historic family-owned villa and winery with views over Florence and an Italian garden (weather permitting). The wines are made mostly from native grape varieties, particularly Sangiovese. This third tasting completes the comparison between three producers and their approaches.

  8. Florence

A 45-minute drive back to the departure point in Florence ends the day.

  9. Piazzale Montelungo, Firenze
