Chianti, Montalcino and Montepulciano by Minivan from Florence: Wine Tastings and Lunch
This minivan day from Florence links three wine areas: Chianti, Montalcino and Montepulciano. The deluxe minivan has wifi on board. The route runs through the Tuscan countryside: medieval villages, vineyards and olive groves along the way.
Castellina In Chianti
A guided tasting among old vineyards and olive groves: several Chianti wines, extra virgin olive oil on Tuscan bread, vin santo with locally made cantuccini, and lavender honey.
Val D'Orcia
A panoramic road passes Monteriggioni, a small medieval village still ringed by its ancient walls. Next comes the clay terrain of the Crete Senesi, a bare, hilly stretch, followed by the green Val d'Orcia, a UNESCO site of cypress-dotted hills, castles, churches, villages of Etruscan origin and farms along the Via Francigena.
Montalcino
A guided two-course lunch and tasting at a historic farm: Rosso di Montalcino, Brunello and Super Tuscan wines, a large selection of local products and homemade biscuits. A cellar visit and some free time outdoors follow.
Montalcino
A stop in medieval Montalcino, with towered walls and a fourteenth-century fortress that gives one of the best views over the Val d'Orcia. Narrow streets hold dozens of wineries and artisan shops selling local products.
Montepulciano
After a short panoramic drive, Montepulciano, enclosed by fortified walls on a hill 600 metres above sea level between Val d'Orcia and Val di Chiana. The town is known for its Noble wine. The stop covers a walk through steep streets and elegant squares, Renaissance buildings and churches, and a tasting in one of the old town's wine cellars.
