Private Napa Wine Tour with a Driver: 20 Priced

Twenty private cars from 224 to 1,166 EUR, priced per vehicle. At the median, six people pay about 101 EUR each and two pay 302.

A median of 605 EUR looks like the price of a day out for one person. For a private Napa wine tour with a driver it is the price of a vehicle. The listings here are private in substance, all 20 of them, and their titles say so in the same breath as the capacity: SUV up to 6 guests, limousine up to 8, Sprinter van up to 14, two to five people. The single price covers the car, the driver and the hours, from 224 to 1,166 EUR, and it is divided by whoever is in it. Six people in the median car pay about 101 EUR each; two pay 302. This page does that division for you, says what sits outside the price, and shows when a private car beats the coach from San Francisco and when it does not.

The ratings are the highest of the three Napa and Sonoma formats, 4.89, and 17 of the 20 listings rate 4.9 or 5.0. That says the cars turn up and the drivers are good. It does not say the price is low, and on the evidence of the listings, it is not meant to be.

Read across and down. Two people in the median car pay the price of two coach days and a bit. Six people in the SUV at 806 EUR pay 134 EUR each, and fourteen in the Sprinter van pay 83 EUR. Capacity is the lever. The cars at the bottom of the price range are sold for the same money whatever the party size: the same operator, Napa Sonoma Wine Tours, lists one tour for up to 8 people and another for 2 to 5, both at 359 EUR for 5 hours. Book the one whose capacity fits you and do not pay for seats you will not fill.

Chart of the 20 Private Napa Wine Tours with a Driver listings by price and length, median 605 EUR
Each mark is one listing by length and price. Nearly all sit at 6 or 8 hours. The dot at 12 hours is a listing titled 6 hour; the top dot is the 14-guest van. · Wine Tours Editorial, from the prices of the tours listed on this site

The chart shows a market with one length and many prices. Thirteen listings are 6 hours, four are 8 or a little more, two are 5, and the price at 6 hours runs from 404 to 1,166 EUR, a factor of nearly three. Class explains part of it. Apex Limousine lists a premium SUV at 627 EUR, a limousine at 806 and a stretch limousine for eight at 896, all for 6 hours. The rest is the operator: IBDC lists a 6-hour tour at 627 EUR and a full-day tour from San Francisco at 1,075, also 6 hours, and the 448 EUR gap is very probably the price of starting in the city.

When a private car beats the coach

The coach day with tastings included is 139 EUR a head. The private car has to come in under that, and it has to do so without the tastings, which are extra. At the median price of 605 EUR the car matches the coach at about 4.4 people, so five. At 359 EUR it matches it at 2.6, so three. At 806 EUR the number is 5.8, so six. Every one of those comparisons ignores the tasting fees, which the coach includes and which at 40 USD a stop add up to about 120 USD a head.

For two people a private driver buys privacy, not savings. For five or six it can cost the same as the bus and gives you the day.

One listing in the San Francisco day trips belongs in this comparison: Gray Line's private tour at 417 EUR for up to 15 people on an exclusive luxury coach, with tastings at three wineries included. It has only 9 reviews, but with the fees in the price it is worth a look for a large group.

How many wineries fit in six hours

Wine Tour Pros says its tours start with a glass of wine and stop at three to six wineries in a typical six hours. Visit Napa Valley suggests two or three wineries a day at 90 minutes or more each. Six stops in six hours is an hour each, with no time for the road. Three stops at 90 minutes is four and a half hours, which leaves room for the drive and a lunch.

Ask the operator for the number of tastings, not the number of hours.

What the price leaves out

What the three listings we opened say, read on 30 September 2026.
Item What they say
Tasting feesNot included in any of the three; Napa Valley SUV says the fee is set by each winery
TipsNot included in any of the three
FuelNapa Valley SUV: fuel surcharge not included. Wine Tour Pros: added fuel fees depending on the pickup or drop-off distance
HoursSold in blocks. Napa Valley SUV: six hours or longer. Wine Tour Pros: six hours, extra hours charged
CancellationNapa Valley SUV: full refund up to 24 hours before. Both Wine Tour Pros listings: all sales final
Drinking in the carWine Tour Pros: a glass of champagne or a bottle of bubbles to start, and you may drink in the car

The catalogue shows the Napa Valley SUV at 12 hours, although its title and its text sell six-hour blocks. We read the 350 EUR price as the six-hour block. The fuel rule matters for a pickup a long way from the wine country: Wine Tour Pros picks up anywhere in the Bay Area and Sacramento, and charges more as the distance grows.

Eleven operators, most of them with two cars

The 20 listings come from 11 operators. Apex Limousine and Wine Tour Pros have three each; Bliss Wine Tours, Wine Nation, Napa Sonoma Wine Tours, IBDC and Valley Luxury have two. The biggest by reviews is Napa Valley SUV with 262, or 15% of the 1,731, which is a long way from the 34% that one company holds on the day trips. The market is many small car services, each with a few hundred reviews at most. Only four listings have more than 140 reviews, and two have fewer than 30.

The ratings are therefore a fair guide to whether the car is clean and the driver good, and a poor guide to whether the driver knows the wineries that suit you. Three listings rate under 4.9: Hansom Tours at 4.6 with 198 reviews and 583 EUR, Wine Nation at 4.7 and 224 EUR, and a Wine Tour Pros car at 4.8 and 717 EUR.

Ask who books the tasting rooms

Napa's tasting rooms are mostly by appointment. Charles Krug takes every tasting by reservation, prepaid, and Visit Napa Valley says the most requested rooms fill weeks ahead. The three private listings we read say the operator helps plan the day or the itinerary; none says it reserves the tastings for you.

So ask the simple question before paying: who books the wineries, and what do they charge for it? If the answer is you, do it the week you book the car, and book the rooms that matter first. The Napa & Sonoma page has the door prices to budget against.

Three mistakes to avoid

The first is reading 605 EUR as a per-person price and deciding it costs several times the coach. The second is assuming the tastings are in it. The third is asking for the most wineries a driver will promise: six stops in six hours is an hour each, and that is a list, not a day.

The Sonoma tours are the alternative when the aim is an easy day on a bike or a trolley, at a median of 159 EUR a head.

Questions about private Napa wine tours

How much is a private driver in Napa?

From 224 to 1,166 EUR for the vehicle, median 605, in a 6 to 8 hour block. Shared by four people, the median is about 151 EUR each, before tasting fees, fuel and a tip.

Is the price per person or per car?

Per vehicle. The listings state a capacity in the title, such as up to 6 guests, and one price covers the car, the driver and the hours. The group coach from San Francisco is per person.

Are tastings included?

Not in the three listings we opened. Each winery sets its own fee, typically around 40 USD for a basic tasting. The Gray Line private tour at 417 EUR, on the sister page, does include three.

How many wineries can we visit?

Two or three is the sensible number: Visit Napa Valley suggests 90 minutes each or more. One operator promises three to six in a typical six hours, which leaves about an hour each.

Is a private tour worth it for two people?

It buys privacy, not savings. At the median price two people pay 302 EUR each, against 139 EUR for a coach day with tastings included. At the cheapest 359 EUR it is 180 each.

Can the driver pick us up in San Francisco?

Some can. Wine Tour Pros picks up anywhere in the Bay Area and Sacramento, with a fuel surcharge for distance. Others start in the valley. A pickup from the city costs more: one operator lists 627 EUR from Napa and 1,075 from San Francisco.

Four people or fewer?

The group days from San Francisco start at 98 EUR and usually include the tastings.

Data verified on. Prices, ratings and lengths read from the 20 listings on 30 September 2026; inclusions from the Wine Tour Pros and Napa Valley SUV listings; tasting fees from Visit Napa Valley.
