This private day covers Saint-Émilion and Pomerol on the right bank of the Garonne, in a luxury air-conditioned vehicle. On the drive, a personal guide talks about one of the oldest wine regions in France, where the Romans had already planted vines, and about the châteaux that made these appellations famous. Two estate visits and three tastings are booked in advance in Saint-Émilion and Pomerol. At each château a guide from the estate shows the cellars and the vineyards, and the visit ends with a tasting of the estate's wines. Château visits and tastings are not included in the price and are paid separately. The tastings make clear how the wine ties back to the terroir it comes from. The day also includes the cobblestone streets of the medieval village of Saint-Émilion, a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1999, and a visit to the Monolithic Church, which carries its own fee.

What's included

  • Guided walking tour of Saint-Emilion and discovery of its cultural heritage
  • Private air-conditioned transport with wi-fi and bottled mineral water

  1. Place de la Comedie

The usual starting point for this day on the right bank of the Bordeaux vineyards.

  2. Saint-Emilion

A walk through the cobbled streets of the small medieval village of Saint-Émilion. The guide tells anecdotes from its long and turbulent history and shows how religious life and the vineyard are intertwined. The village is classified as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Wine merchant stalls along the way sell bottles from the châteaux.

  3. Eglise Monolithe de Saint-Emilion

The monolithic church recalls the religious life of the town in the Middle Ages. Its 68-metre bell tower gives away its position, while the three openings of the façade and an often closed Gothic portal hide the rest. It is surprising and fragile.

  4. L'Envers du Décor wine bar

L'Envers du Décor, the first historic wine bar in Saint-Émilion, was founded in 1987 by François des Ligneris and taken over in February 2017 by the Perse family, owners of Château Pavie and the Auberge de Pavie. It is the emblematic restaurant of the village. The name is given as an example. The restaurant may differ depending on availability that day, and the one chosen offers equivalent services.

  5. Chateau de Sales

Château de Sales lies in the northwest of the Pomerol appellation. Its 47.60 hectares of vines, out of 90 hectares of estate, make it the largest vineyard in the AOC Pomerol. The boundaries are those of 1578, minus three hectares lost during the Revolution. Example of a visit: the actual visit depends on the availability of the châteaux.

    Costo extra

  6. Chateau La Gaffeliere

Château La Gaffelière is a Grand Vin, the first Grand Cru ranked since the origin of the Saint-Émilion classification in 1959. Vines have grown on the estate since Gallo-Roman times, as shown by mosaics discovered by Count Léo de Malet Roquefort in 1969. Example of a tasting: the actual tasting depends on the availability of the châteaux.
