Valpolicella Amarone Day from Verona: Two Boutique Wineries, Limited-Edition Wines, Lunch (12/12)

This day in Valpolicella centers on Amarone and visits 2 boutique wineries among the green hills of the region. The pace is slow, with time to talk, walk and drink without rushing. The producers receive the group in person and show their own homes and cellars. The wines include some limited-edition Amarone and IGT wines. The new extra virgin olive oil is tasted too, on a bruschetta. Between the vineyard and winery visits, a light Veronese lunch is served at the second winery. A walk through the vines introduces several indigenous grape varieties. Panoramic stops along the way are there for photos of the Amarone hills. Door-to-door wine shipping is available.

  1. P.za Bra, 28, Verona

Next to the entrance of the international pharmacy and the big clock in the city walls.

  2. Marano di Valpolicella

A local wine guide drives the group from Verona to two wineries where the winemakers tell their own stories and pour prized wines, limited-edition Amarone among them. Valpolicella is just 20 minutes from Verona and is known for Amarone, Ripasso and sweet Recioto, the predecessor of Amarone.

  3. San Giorgio di Valpolicella

The second cellar serves a lunch with its Valpolicella wines: homemade bruschetta, grilled polenta, a main dish from Veronese cuisine, then chocolate and cookies. Dishes change with the season. The winery dates back to the 1500s.

  4. Sant'Ambrogio di Valpolicella

The afternoon winery visit includes a walk through the vineyards to learn about indigenous grape varieties, then a tasting that ends with a grappa toast. The shared tours are led by certified local drivers.
