Tenuta San Francesco, Tramonti: Pre-Phylloxera Vines, 1600s Cellar and Three DOC Wines
Tenuta San Francesco was founded in 2004 in Tramonti, inland on the Amalfi Coast, to revive an old winegrowing tradition. The estate covers about eight and a half hectares and makes wine from the grapes of three historic local families: the Bove, the D'Avino and the Giordano. The winery's modern equipment was completed at the start of 2005. It stands on an old estate owned by the Di Palma family, who run it today with advice from Carmine Valentino of Avellino. The setting is an 18th century masseria surrounded by the green of the Monti Lattari Park. The tasting begins outdoors, among historic pre-phylloxera vineyards whose vines are 300 to 500 years old, and moves into the 17th century cellar. Three DOC wines of Amalfi Coast Tramonti are poured with panzanella, fresh mozzarella and ricotta, aged cheeses and cured meats.
