Stellenbosch Wine Tractor: Hop-On Hop-Off Tasting Tour of Golden Triangle Farms

StellenboschThe wine tractor is a hop-on hop-off ride through the Golden Triangle of Stellenbosch, linking grand estates, boutique producers and historic homesteads. The route runs along back roads and through working vineyards, which is a view a car on the main road does not get. Guides talk about the area and the long history of winemaking here. At each farm there are 65 minutes to taste, sit down or order something to eat before the tractor moves on, so nothing is rushed. Most farms are child-friendly, with play areas and activities for kids. Stellenbosch is about 35 minutes from Cape Town and 20 minutes from the airport. This is a tasting tour, not a cellar tour. Guests sample the wines each farm produces. Cellar tours can be arranged directly with some farms for an extra cost.

Root44 Market, Stellenbosch
Every tractor trip starts and ends at Root44 market, on the corner of the R44 and Annandale Road in Stellenbosch. Arrive 30 minutes before the scheduled departure. A shuttle can be arranged through the ticket office at least 24 hours before the tour.
Eikendal
Hop off here for a 65-minute stop. Not every estate is open every day.
Avontuur Wine Estate
Temporarily closed for renovations. Otherwise a 65-minute stop if you choose to hop off.
Grangehurst
A hop-off point of your choice. Each stop lasts 65 minutes, subject to opening hours and private functions.
Longridge Wine Estate
Optional 65-minute stop. Availability depends on the day's private functions and opening hours.
Peter Falke Winery
Hop off for 65 minutes to taste. Opening hours can differ from day to day.
Webersburg Estate
One more hop-off stop of 65 minutes. One day is not enough to see every estate, so pick where to get on and off.
Annandale Wine Estate
Choose this stop and get 65 minutes at the estate. Some estates close for private events.
Alto Wine Estate
Last stop on the list, with 65 minutes at the estate if you get off. Check the day's availability.

Not included
- A shuttle service from the CBD can be arranged at least 48 hours prior to your tour. Alternatively, you will need to arrange your own transport to and from the ticket office at the Root44 Market
- Meals at restaurants are not included in the ticket price

- Infants are required to sit on an adult’s lap
- Shuttle is only available for the 10:30 tractor departure
- Shuttle from Cape Town can be arranged for an additional cost of R400 per person, the shuttle needs to be booked directly with the ticket office 48 hours in advance. PLS note space on the shuttle is limited
- Tastings are not included in the standard ticket. Tastings typically cost R100 to R150 each at the various estates.
