  1. Sydney Harbour Bridge

The route north crosses the Sydney Harbour Bridge, which locals call the "Coast Hanger".

  2. Hawkesbury River

The road crosses the Brooklyn Bridge with views over the water and passes the town of Brooklyn, an area known for Sydney Rock Oysters.

  3. Wyong

A short morning tea stop along the way gives time for coffee and a break.

  4. Hunter Valley

The first boutique winery is reached around 10.30 am. Staff explain how to look, smell and sip, and how to tell one wine and grape style from another. Every small winery on the route grows its own grapes and makes the wine on site. Many of the wines poured have won medals, and the vignerons are happy to show them.

  5. Hunter Valley

The second winery pours up to 10 different wines. The valley is known for Shiraz and Semillon, so both are on the list. Between tastings, watch the vineyards for the odd wild kangaroo, which likes to rest among the vines in the heat of the day.

  6. Hunter Valley

Lunch is a choice between a cafe and fine dining, paid directly to the venue. A bottle bought at the cellar door can go with the meal. Afterwards there is time to walk through Hunter Valley Village and taste locally made chocolates at the Hunter Valley Chocolate Company.

  7. Hunter Valley

After lunch comes the third winery of the day. The wineries differ from each other and were picked for a more personal visit than the large commercial cellars give. There is time to walk among the vines for photos.
