Chef-Led Hunter Valley Food and Wine Day Tour from Sydney with Mobile Kitchen Lunch
A qualified chef hosts this Hunter Valley day from the moment it leaves Sydney. He is also the driver and the guide, so the food and the wine come from the same person. The first stop is the new Sydney Fish Market, the third-largest fish market in the world, where fresh local seafood is chosen before the bus heads north. Breakfast by the Hawkesbury River breaks up the two-hour drive. In the Hunter Valley the group visits three hand-picked boutique wineries. The chef cooks modern Australian dishes on site from his mobile kitchen and pairs them with the wines being tasted. Kangaroos and birdlife are a real possibility among the vineyards. The pace is relaxed, and the day is built around the long lunch rather than a tick-list of cellar doors.

Sydney
Pickup is from one of 7 locations around the city. The guide, driver and chef comments on landmarks on the way to the Sydney Fish Market, where coffee is easy to find. Drinking water is supplied on the customised kitchen bus.
Sydney Fish Market
A cook's tour of the new Sydney Fish Market, with the story of its seafood auction, the world's third-largest fish market. Jimmy, guide, driver and chef, points out local specialties, explains how to choose, prepare and cook them, and buys the freshest seafood for The Long Lunch.
Hawkesbury River
A stop on the picturesque Hawkesbury River, known for Sydney Rock, Pacific and Akoya oysters and the Hawkesbury River prawn. Jimmy cooks a hearty breakfast to set everyone up for the wineries ahead.
Hunter Valley
Eastern Grey Kangaroos are the ones to watch for on the way into wine country, while Jimmy explains the climate, the crops and what is happening in the surrounding vineyards. Three boutique wineries are on the list, with tastings at each. Between the second and third, Jimmy opens his mobile kitchen and cooks dishes to pair with each wine during the long lunch. The menu leans on Australian ingredients, for example barramundi with Semillon and kangaroo with Shiraz, and ends with dessert and a sweet dessert wine. One handpicked winery has panoramic views of the Great Dividing Range, with local wines and dishes prepared by the guide and chef. The Hunter Valley is known for olive oils, chutneys, olives and chili sauces. If time permits, the group stops at a local produce store to taste them.
Sydney
Back in the city, the route crosses the Sydney Harbour Bridge. The guide points out places to eat and landmarks around the harbour. Drop-off is at the pickup locations, except the Sydney Fish Market.
