Private Chianti Classico Day from Florence: Luiano, Savignola, a Young Estate, 9:30 Pickup
This private day in Chianti Classico, the land of the Black Rooster, visits three family-run wineries and ends with a long tasting of Chianti. At each estate you walk the vineyards and the cellars to see how the wine is made and aged, and the day also covers extra virgin olive oil and how it is produced. The wines come from boutique producers, and a typical multi-course lunch is served. Since wine and food go together in Italy, guides share tips on pairing the two. Pickup is at your accommodation in Florence at 9:30 am.

San Casciano in Val di Pesa
Luiano has made wine and olive oil since the 9th century and once belonged to Florentine families including the Strozzi. The Palombo family took over in 1959, dropped mixed farming and planted only vines, with Sangiovese the main variety. The cellars date from the Renaissance. The visit covers the property, the vineyard and the cellars where the wine is made and displayed, and ends with a Chianti tasting with a view.
Greve in Chianti
Savignola is a boutique winery in Chianti Classico, active since 1780, with 5 hectares of vines and about 22,000 bottles a year. The name is of Etruscan origin, and the buildings date to the first half of the 17th century. Its history is an all-female one: Paolina was the first woman to bottle a Riserva in a Bordeaux-style bottle, bringing innovation to Chianti Classico tradition. The barrel cellar goes back to the 1500s. The soil is deep clay and chalk.
Panzano in Chianti
The last winery of the day began producing in 2012, which shows in the lively character of its young wines. The estate's story goes back to the end of the 1800s, when the founder Gualtiero bought the first vineyards in Mercatale Val di Pesa. One of his sons later planted new vineyards, bought more land and a fifteenth-century villa, now the center of the property. It lies in the Chianti Classico Fiorentino area, with vineyards, olive groves and forest. Sangiovese, Colorino and Canaiolo grow here, along with Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon. The 15th-century cellars were renovated for modern winemaking, and an 18th-century barn has become a second cellar.
