Montepulciano is called the Renaissance pearl, and it sits inside medieval walls. This private guided walk starts at the top, in Piazza Grande, with the never-finished Cathedral, the town hall, Palazzo Contucci, Palazzo Tarugi and the well dated 1500. From the square there is a view over the Val di Chiana and part of the Val d'Orcia. The walk then goes down the winding main street, past palaces and churches. The guide talks about local traditions (once a year the town holds a barrel-pushing competition) and points out the spots used as movie sets. The last stop is underground, in one of the town's ancient wineries, for a glass of Nobile wine, or more than one. The schedule in the booking system shows 10 AM and 3 PM, but times can be arranged directly with the guide on request.
