Marseille Cruise Port Private Provence Wine Shore Excursion with Cassis, Aix or Lourmarin
This tour is for cruise passengers only, because the port of Marseille is a secure area that only cruise passengers can enter. The day is a private wine excursion in Provence, with visits and tastings at 2 or 3 selected wineries depending on docking times. The guide covers the main Provence appellations, grape varieties such as Grenache, Syrah, Mourvèdre and Cinsault, and the art of blending. The glass holds some of the best Provence rosés, plus powerful reds and aromatic, lively whites. The excursion ends in one of three places, depending on the chosen itinerary: Cassis, Aix-en-Provence or Lourmarin.

Provence-Alpes-Cote d'Azur
The excursion is planned so that the group is back at the cruise port at least one hour before the ship leaves. Departure and return times can be adapted to docking times. The English-speaking wine guide meets the group at 9am (another time can be agreed after booking) at the Marseille cruise pier, and drives a clean, air-conditioned minivan for up to 8 people. The morning covers 2 private wineries. Each visit is educational and adapted to the guests' level, for beginners and connoisseurs alike. The winemaking and ageing rooms are part of the visit, and there is time for photos among the vines. Along the way the group tastes Provence rosés, powerful and well-balanced reds, and aromatic, lively whites. The guide explains the steps of tasting when needed. The group then leaves the countryside for about 2 hours of free time, for lunch and a visit to Cassis (a small port), Lourmarin (a picturesque village) or Aix-en-Provence (a lively city). The guide recommends restaurants. The return to Marseille cruise port is around 4pm (another time can be agreed after booking), well before the ship departs. The wineries are chosen to show different ways of working, and partnerships give access behind the scenes, from the winemaking and ageing rooms to the bottling lines. The guide also covers soil, climate, grape varieties and terroir, plus picking, pruning and green harvesting, in a relaxed way.
