Malbec Experience at Bodega Tierras Altas, Luján de Cuyo: Vineyards and Barrel Tasting
Ratings collected by Viator and Tripadvisor
Lujan de CuyoTierras Altas is in Luján de Cuyo, a few kilometres from Mendoza City. Built in 1999, it was one of the first boutique wineries in Mendoza. It holds 250,000 litres, all in stainless steel tanks, and uses high-tech machinery to treat the grapes with care. The winery also has an underground cellar, unusual in the region, where wine ages in oak barrels and then rests in bottle. This Malbec experience covers the vineyards, the tank room and that cellar.

Bodega Tierras Altas
The visit starts with a guided tour of the winery. Glass in hand, you walk the vineyards beside the winery and hear about vineyard types, how grapes are harvested and how Mendoza's different soils affect grapes and wine. Next is the steel tank room, where the guide explains fermentation and the work done there. Wines are tasted straight from the tanks. The last stop is the underground cellar, with oak barrels, stored bottles and a large central table where the tasting takes place, including a sample from the barrel.
