J.F. Iradier Winery Tour in Samaniego: 18th-Century Rock Cellars and Three Wines
J.F. Iradier is a winery in Samaniego, in Rioja Alavesa, and this 1.5-hour guided tour covers both its old and its new side. The group meets at the winery entrance at the scheduled time. The old part dates to the 18th century. The guide explains the traditional winemaking techniques the winery still keeps, and the group walks through the cellars and tunnels where wine was once made and bottled. The space is carved into rock, and the temperature inside surprises most visitors. The tour then moves to the modern part, to show how winemaking here has changed and how the winery became one of the symbols of Rioja Alavesa. It ends with a tasting of three J.F. Iradier wines and a snack of typical products. Included: guided tour of both parts of the winery, tasting of three wines, and the snack. Not included: transport to the winery, and food or drinks beyond the tasting.
