Laguardia Walking Tour with Wine Cave Visit and Tasting of Two Rioja Wines
Laguardia is one of the prettiest towns in Rioja Alavesa, and this guided walk covers it in 1 hour 30 minutes. It starts at a meeting point in the town center on Mayor Kalea and finishes with a wine cave visit and tasting. The walk goes through cobbled streets where coats of arms still decorate the house fronts and doorways, a reminder of the Middle Ages. A lookout point gives views of the town walls and towers, the Toloño mountains and the vineyards of Rioja Alavesa. The route also passes the Church of St. John the Baptist, the town's patron saint, noted as a fine example of Romanesque architecture in the area, then crosses the Jewish quarter to the central square. The last part is underground. The group goes down about 7 meters (23 feet) into one of Laguardia's wine caves, where winemaking traditions go back to the 16th century. Two wines from Rioja Alavesa are tasted there, and the tour ends outside the cave.
