Grape Stomping on a Provençal Farm in Cadenet, with Oak Barrels and a Cheese Buffet
Grape stomping is one of the oldest wine traditions in the world, and this farm in Provence still does it by foot. The visit starts with a walk around the farm and an explanation of how wine is grown and made. The stomping happens in old oak barrels that come up to the waist. Each one has room for four or more people and a view of Mount Sainte Victoire. Local farmers' harvest stories fill the time, and traditional French drinking songs get taught along the way. A short lesson on telling the local grapes and wines apart rounds out the session. After the stomp comes a buffet of cheese, pâté, charcuterie and red wine, plus a tasting of the farm's own olive oil and truffle oil. The format suits all ages, and the barrels make for good photos.
What's included
- several cheeses and charcuterie selections with honey truffle, truffle oil and salt truffle, with all you care to drink red wine and rosé
