Douro Valley Sommelier Tour: Small Estates, Pinhão Boat Ride and Historic House Lunch
The road into the valley is winding and the views start early. The first main stop is Pinhão, a small village that played a crucial role in the history of Port wine, where a relaxing boat ride on the Douro is part of the day. This tour is not for anyone looking for large commercial wineries. The first visit is a wine tasting of unusual wines that cannot be bought in stores. The second visit is a historic wine estate dating back to the 18th century, once owned by a powerful local family. Its centuries-old residence keeps the original furniture. Lunch is traditional and comes with wines from the estate's own vineyards, after a tasting. Throughout, the focus is on the people who work this valley, a landscape shaped together by man and nature.
