The meeting point is the fire station, close to the city hall.
Vinho Verde Route
The first vineyards appear on the way, though they are not the Douro's. They belong to Vinho Verde, also called Green Wine.
Amarante
A look at Amarante and its surroundings before the road climbs into the mountains.
Serra do Marao
The road crosses the Serra do Marão through a long tunnel.
The Douro Valley
Crossing some of the Douro's tributaries gives a sense of how big the valley is.
Ponte Pedonal Metalica de Peso da Regua
The first view of the Douro comes on foot across this bridge, while the guide drives around to meet the group at the other end.
Quinta do Panascal
A medium-size producer with views over the Douro, focused on small groups. Fonseca is known for the quality of its Port. The visit covers the granite tanks where the wine ferments and the cellar with its wooden barrels, then a Port tasting with river views.
Pinhao Railway Station
The Pinhão train station, with its typical panels of blue painted tiles.
Pinhao
The small village of Pinhão, important to Port wine, with the Douro and some of the most famous Port houses in the background.

The base for lunch and the afternoon, a place with some surprising celebrity connections.
