Calçada de Vandoma, Porto
Statue of Vimara Peres, near the cathedral. Easy to reach by train, bus, metro (São Bento) or on foot.
Porto
The guide waits at the Statue of Vimara Peres, explains the itinerary briefly, and then sets off for the Douro Valley.
Sabrosa
A small quinta and wine producer, with Douro DOC tastings and olive oil, and an introduction to what makes winemaking here different. Then the road follows centuries-old terraces through the Douro wine region.
The Douro Valley
Historic small villages with views of terraced vineyards, a chance to meet locals, and time to take photos at some of the best viewpoints.
Pinhao
A few minutes in a local village for a drink and some of its history and culture. The facades hide more than they show.
Barragem da Regua
The drive follows the N222, one of the best-known stretches of road in the world, with views of the terraced hillsides.
Douro River
Lunch at a winery (not included), with Portuguese wines and food served in a contemporary style. Anyone who prefers another place can say so when booking.
Peso Da Regua
More wine after lunch: Douro DOC and Port, which goes down more smoothly after a hearty Portuguese meal.
Porto
The return to Porto is in a comfortable van, with time to rest.
