Just south of Siena lie the production zones of two of Italy's best-known reds, Brunello di Montalcino and Nobile di Montepulciano. Both are made from clones of Sangiovese, and both rank among the most collectible wines in the country. This tour links the two wine towns, Montalcino and Montepulciano, with a stop in Pienza for Pecorino cheese. Most of the route runs through the rolling hills of the Val d'Orcia, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Along the way guests meet the producers and taste their wines.

The Val d'Orcia is one of Italy's most admired valleys. It has been painted many times and filmed for movies such as Gladiator, The English Patient and Twilight.

  2. Montalcino

Montalcino is the Brunello production area. The stop covers the wine and the history of this walled town.

  3. Piazza Grande

Montepulciano makes Vino Nobile, and its historic center reflects the wealth of the town. Once independent, it became Florence's strongest ally because of its position south of Siena.

  4. Historic Centre of the City of Pienza
