  1. Chateau Yaldara

The day starts at Chateau Yaldara, one of the Barossa's historic wineries. Hermann Thumm, a European winemaker, founded it in 1947, and the chateau stands on the site of a 19th-century flour mill. It is known for Shiraz and Cabernet Sauvignon. 'Yaldara' comes from an Aboriginal word meaning 'sparkling', a reference to the nearby North Para River. Guests taste the wines and have time for a self-guided walk through the sandstone buildings, gardens and riverside grounds, among the most photographed spots in the Barossa.

  2. Barossa Crown jewel and The Kingdom of Palms

Seppeltsfield, reached along the Avenue of Palms. Inside the Centennial Cellar, the history of the estate is poured as wine. Time to explore: JamFactory craft and design, 10 minutes. Vasse Virgin, 20 minutes. Octeine Cafe, 10 minutes.

  3. Vasse Virgin at Seppeltsfield

Vasse Virgin, in the Seppeltsfield artisan village, sells products made with essential oils. The estate stretches well beyond its vines.

  4. Jam Factory, Seppeltsfield, Barossa Valley Australia

The JamFactory at Seppeltsfield, where artisans can be watched at work, and Octeine Cafe for a specialty brew. The estate has 170 years of history behind it.

  5. Seppelt Family Mausoleum

The Seppeltsfield Mausoleum sits on a hilltop above the estate, a Grecian-style monument and the resting place of the Seppelt family. It is a short drive or walk away, with wide views over the Barossa's vineyards.

  6. Browns Barossa Donuts

A recommended stop at Browns Barossa Donuts, which is open only Wednesday to Saturday. The handmade brioche donuts are made fresh each morning from local ingredients, in flavours such as Biscoff cheesecake, Nutella and dulce de leche. Purchases are at your own cost.

  7. Jacob's Creek Trail of Discovery

The bus passes Jacob's Creek, one of Australia's best-known wine brands, without stopping. The guide tells its story. The creek was named after William Jacob, a surveyor in the 1840s, and Johann Gramp, a Bavarian immigrant, planted the first commercial vineyard near it in 1847.

  8. Hemera Estate

Hemera Estate, a winery on a former 19th-century farm with Mediterranean-inspired architecture. It began as Ross Estate in the early 2000s and was renamed after the Greek word for 'goddess of the day'. It makes small-batch wines with minimal intervention, and the cellar door pours reds, whites and reserve releases.

  9. Kies Family Wines

Gourmet lunch with a wine pairing of small-batch reds and whites at Kies Family Wines, a boutique winery. The farm-to-table menu uses seasonal, local ingredients, and staff explain the winery's sustainable practices and the Barossa terroir during the tasting.

  10. Barossa Chocolate Company

A tasting of artisan chocolates at the Barossa Chocolate Company, from dark to milk, with handcrafted chocolates on sale. Purchases are at your own cost.

  11. Ubertas Wines

The last tasting is at Ubertas Wines, a family-run winery known for sustainable, low-intervention winemaking. The cellar door looks over the vineyards, and the pour includes Shiraz and white wines.

  12. Lambert Estate

Lambert Estate, a family-owned estate in the hills of Angaston with a glass-walled tasting room and award-winning wines. It is not a guaranteed stop: it replaces another venue only when it is available on the day. Four wineries are visited either way.
