WalksDevour Small-Group Tuscany Day Trip: Chianti Farm Lunch, San Gimignano and Siena
Ratings collected by Viator and Tripadvisor
FlorenceThis Tuscan countryside day trip leaves from central Florence with a group limited to 14 people. The stops are San Gimignano, a UNESCO-listed village of narrow storybook streets, a family-run farm in the Chianti region, and Siena. At the farm, lunch follows the season and comes with wine tastings. Siena is one of the best-preserved medieval towns in Italy, with a large cathedral and the Palio horse race. Both towns are left open for free time, and a comfortable private coach brings the group back to Florence.

Piazza della Repùbblica, Firenze
Arrive 15 minutes before the start of the tour. The guide holds a yellow WalksDevour sign. The meeting spot is by the Carousel in Piazza della Repubblica.
Tuscany
The driver and tour leader pick the group up in air-conditioned transport in central Florence and drive into the Tuscan hills. The route passes the best panoramic viewpoint of Florence, with a pause for pictures.
San Gimignano
San Gimignano is a UNESCO World Heritage Site for its architecture. Free time lets visitors explore the winding streets on their own. The private option does not include a guided tour of San Gimignano. Guests get extended free time in the town instead.
Tuscany
After the hill walking comes lunch at a family farm. The hosts lead a behind-the-scenes tour of the vineyards, winery and wine cellars, then serve an all-inclusive lunch of local, seasonal ingredients. The Chianti wines are chosen to go with each dish.
Siena
Siena is one of the best-preserved examples of medieval Italian architecture anywhere. The city was spared German bombing in WWII, and its old, precarious-looking buildings are the home of the Palio, one of the greatest and most dangerous horse races in the world.
Piazza del Campo
The tour leader recommends Piazza del Campo for the free time in Siena. Horses race around the square to win the palio, a handpainted silk banner of the highest regard.
Duomo di Siena
If time allows, Siena Cathedral is worth a visit during the free time.
Piazza Della Repubblica
At the end of the day the group boards a private coach for the ride back to Florence. The logistics are handled, which leaves the food, the sights and the scenery.
