A full-day small-group Champagne tour from Paris, led by a sommelier, wine educator or professional wine guide. The company specialises in wine tours, and the guide is a wine professional, not just a driver. Two wineries are visited, chosen by the head sommelier, who writes for two Champagne books. The wineries change every day, drawing on the operator's network, and the choice favours top premium producers over tourist stops. At least six different Champagnes are tasted over the day. The route also covers the vineyards along the Route Touristique du Champagne, the Reims Cathedral, the village of Hautvillers where Dom Pérignon lived, and the Avenue de Champagne in Épernay. Pickup is at Place d'Italie, near the highway to Champagne.

  1. Paris

Pickup at 9 Place d'Italie at 7:40 am, close to the highway to Champagne, so little time goes to Paris traffic. About 90 minutes in an air-conditioned, recent van to the first stop.

  2. Reims

Arrival in Reims, a historic city and headquarters of big houses such as Ruinart, Veuve Clicquot, Taittinger, Mumm and Pommery.

  3. Cathedrale Notre-Dame de Reims

The UNESCO-listed Notre-Dame de Reims, where more than 30 kings of France were crowned and celebrated with Champagne.

  4. Veuve Clicquot

A drive past one of the most famous Champagne houses (Veuve Clicquot, Pommery, Taittinger or similar).

  5. Champagne Route (Route Touristique du Champagne)

Along the Route Touristique du Champagne, the guide explains the region, its history and how Champagne is made while the group looks over the best grape-growing areas. The first winery is a Champagne house or a quality family producer, which changes daily, with premium tastings. Head sommelier Luiz Batistello created the tour and selects the wineries. At least 6 different Champagnes are tasted during the day.

  6. Hautvillers

Lunch in Hautvillers, the birthplace of Champagne where Dom Pérignon lived. Lunch is not included, but a table is booked at a French restaurant with a good Champagne list (budget from 35 euros per person). Dietary restrictions are easily handled. The restaurant may be in another village depending on logistics.

  7. Abbaye Saint-Pierre d'Hautvillers

The church in front of the monastery where Dom Pérignon lived.

  8. Avenue de Champagne

A drive along the Avenue de Champagne, home to prestigious houses such as Moët & Chandon.

  9. Boutique on Avenue de Champagne

Time permitting, a stop at the boutique of one of the prestigious houses on the avenue.

  10. Champagne Route (Route Touristique du Champagne)

Back on the Route Touristique du Champagne to a second producer, a small family house picked by the head sommelier, for another visit and tastings.

  11. Paris

The tour ends at 9 Place d'Italie, the meeting point. Metro lines 5, 6 (direct to the Eiffel Tower and Arc de Triomphe) and 7 (direct to Châtelet) stop here.
