Small Group Champagne Day Trip from Paris, Max 8 Guests, Family Producer, Sabrage (8/8)

Groups on this Champagne day trip are capped at 8 guests, and the pace follows from that. A local guide drives a minivan from Paris and picks everyone up at their hotel, then returns them there at the end. The day has two cellar visits. One is a family-owned producer, the other a well-known Champagne house. Both come with a guided tour and a tasting, so the contrast between a small estate and a large name is part of the lesson. Lunch is not fixed: guests pick where to eat, which keeps the schedule loose. The rest is spread between Reims, the Avenue de Champagne in Épernay and the vineyards. At one stop the guide runs a blind tasting of sparkling wines, and also demonstrates sabrage, opening a bottle with a sabre.

Itinerary

  1. Paris

The day starts with pickup at your hotel or Airbnb in Paris. Once everyone is aboard, the minivan leaves the city for Champagne. Depending on traffic and the schedule, a short comfort stop may be offered for the restroom, a coffee or a snack.

  2. Reims Cathedral

In Reims, the stop is Notre-Dame de Reims Cathedral, one of France's finest Gothic buildings and closely tied to the country's royal history. About 30 minutes of free time lets you look at the facade, take photos and, if it is open, step inside for the stained glass. The guide adds stories about the cathedral's history and its place in Reims.

  3. Champagne-Ardenne

Next is a family-owned Champagne house. A guided visit covers the estate and its historic cellars, and explains the traditional methods and the family's story. A tasting follows. A small producer has a different style from the big names, and this stop shows it.

  4. Champagne-Ardenne

The second cellar visit is a renowned Champagne house such as Veuve Clicquot, Moët & Chandon, Taittinger or Nicolas Feuillatte, subject to availability. The guide explains how these houses combine old traditions with modern techniques, which sets up a comparison with the family producer visited earlier.

  5. Avenue de Champagne

In Épernay, the Avenue de Champagne is often called the most prestigious street in Champagne and is lined with famous houses. The guide explains its history, then there is free time to walk the street and take photos in this UNESCO-listed area.

  6. Champagne-Ardenne

Set among the Champagne vineyards, the guide hosts a blind tasting that compares sparkling wines, Champagne and Crémant among them, and talks through aromas and flavors. Beginners and enthusiasts can both follow along. The guide also demonstrates sabrage, the traditional way of opening a bottle with a sabre.

  7. Paris

The driver and guide bring you back to your original pickup point in Paris. A drop-off elsewhere in Paris can be requested, and the guide will try to accommodate it, traffic and schedule permitting.
