  1. Stellenbosch

    Stellenbosch, in the Western Cape, is one of South Africa's best-known towns, with old-world architecture and a strong wine culture. It suits history fans, nature lovers and wine drinkers alike.

  2. Stark-Conde Wines

    Stark-Condé Wine Farm sits in the Jonkershoek Valley, with a history going back to 1692 and a name for its reds, among them the Stark-Condé Three Pines Cabernet Sauvignon. Valley and mountain views surround the tasting room, which serves food pairings.

  3. Tokara Wine Estate

    Tokara Wine Farm lies on the slopes of the Simonsberg, with views of the vineyards, Stellenbosch and False Bay in the distance. Its best-known wine is the Director's Reserve red blend. The restaurant has an open terrace and cooks with local ingredients.

    Rickety Bridge Wine Farm in the Franschhoek Valley was established in 1797 and is named after an old wooden bridge on the property. Its Merlot and Chardonnay stand out. The tasting room overlooks vineyards and mountains, and the estate has a restaurant.

  8. Groot Drakenstein Prison

    Groot Drakenstein, formerly Victor Verster Prison, lies near Paarl and Franschhoek. Nelson Mandela was moved here in 1988 and lived in a private house in the compound for 14 months before his release on 11 February 1990. That house, Madiba House, is preserved as a South African National Heritage Site.
