Private Winelands Wine Tasting: Stellenbosch and Franschhoek from Cape Town
This private day trip from Cape Town covers three wineries in Stellenbosch and Franschhoek, with tastings included, plus the history and culture of the area. Grapes have grown in the valleys around Stellenbosch since the 1600s, and it is now the largest wine-producing region in South Africa. In autumn the vines around Franschhoek, Pniel, Stellenbosch, Klapmuts, Wellington and Tulbagh turn crimson, ochre and brown. The day mixes wine with time on foot. Visitors see the village of Franschhoek and walk around Stellenbosch, the second oldest town in South Africa. The pace is relaxed, and the drives between stops pass through historic towns and scenic countryside.

Cape Town
Pickup is at a central Cape Town hotel, and the day heads into Western Cape wine country. Paarl comes first, in the Paarl Valley, with a cellar tour and tasting at a wine estate. Paarl is the oldest European settlement in the province after Cape Town, and the region's winemaking started here. Pinotage, a grape hybridized in South Africa, is on the list, alongside Shiraz, Semillon and Chardonnay. Paarl and Stellenbosch leave free time to explore on foot. After the last tasting, the vehicle returns to Cape Town. The order of stops can change from day to day.
