Customized Private Wine Tour: Oldenburg, Kanonkop, Rust en Vrede and Meerlust
This is a personalised tour. The operator contacts guests by email or phone beforehand to ask about wine preferences and interests, and builds the day from the answers. Guests who leave the choice to the operator are taken off the beaten track to hidden gems found over the years, with good examples of South African wine along the way. Pairings can be added: chocolate with wine, cheese with wine, champagne with nougat.

Oldenburg Vineyards
The day starts at Oldenburg Vineyards, arguably one of the most scenic vineyards in South Africa, with views over the vines and a ring of mountains like an amphitheatre. The wines suit every palate, and the coffee is strong.
Kanonkop Wine Estate
Kanonkop is one of the premier wine estates in South Africa, named after the cannon on the mountain top that once signalled ships arriving in Cape Town harbour. It focuses on red wine, including Pinotage, South Africa's own grape. Its 2015 Paul Sauer Bordeaux blend was the first in the country to score a perfect 100 points.
Cheese and wine pairing masterclass
A cheese and wine pairing run as a master class. The tasting is outdoors beside a lake and includes champagne.
Rust en Vrede Tasting Room
Lunch is at Guardian Peak, the sister estate of Rust en Vrede, with views over the wine country. The menu includes vegan and vegetarian dishes, at own account.
Meerlust Wine Estate
The last stop is Meerlust, a historic vineyard run by the 8th generation of the Myburgh family, with Cape Dutch architecture. The tasting is held in the old barrel room. In 1980 Meerlust was the first estate in South Africa to produce a Bordeaux blend.
